Wait And Bleed
I’ve been putting together a bunch of horror themed screenshot/quotes and trying to be as over-the-top bloody and violent as possible. Some people are squeamish and even a drop of fake video game blood gets a reaction. But I’m finding that the vast majority of people are so desensitized to gore these days that it’s almost impossible to shock them anymore. And I’m honestly trying!
I posted a shot a few days ago with a Nightmare on Elm Street quote with as much blood as I could make in almost half an hour and NOBODY commented that I went too far. Feels like a dare to me. Got any ideas? Send them my way!
The Devil In I
On the other hand, and maybe this is because I currently live in Canada’s ultra conservative bible belt, a lot of the reaction I get in person to future plans for PWX content and features has been met with either nervous nods (“that sounds greaaaaat”) or maniacal laughter (“OMG are you KIDDING me! You can’t DO THAT!…but PLEASE DO THAT!”). There is so much mature rated entertainment out there in tv, movies, etc. and it’s considered the norm in most cases.
Hell, I was watching an episode of Mayans last night and while they bleeped out every f-bomb they clearly and repeatedly showed a dead mother’s severed head on a stick and joked about having sex with it. Weird standards, eh? Still, as soon as some people find out I’ll be mixing that level of language and tone with a video game they look at me like I’m the antichrist. I guess I’d rather offend people than bore them. Who’s with me!
Before I Forget
Michael, so sorry for not posting this last week when you first mentioned it to me. Another example of how a silly cease-and-desist letter can’t stop a dedicated wrestling game developer:
NOOOOOOOOOOO! I was pulling together images for a History of Pro Wrestling X info graphic that I’ve been meaning to pull together years (hmmmm sounds familiar) and I realized that a good chunk of content from 2002-2005 has vanished along with not one but TWO hard drives that died the same day. The cloud isn’t sounding so stupid right about now.
Question of the Week
If you could make a wrestling game featuring any wrestling company and their roster from any one time period what would it be?
