You like us! You really like us!

Wow! That’s all I can say is WOW! Since the launch of the WGU website less than a week ago response has been out of this world. My email inbox has been flooded with over 5,000 emails and survey responses so far. I have to say how pleased I am that the gaming community has responded in such a positive and energetic manner.

It shows me and the game developers just how hungry we are for a better wrestling game. It also shows them that we aren’t a fringe minority. There are thousands of us. Hell, I heard from over 3,000 of you in just two days. That’s impressive. Very impressive. But we have only just begun showing the gaming world what we’re capable of…

Who the hell is Wishbone?

Well, I’m Wishbone 🙂 Actually, my name is Dave and I’m the guy who started the Wrestling Gamers United website. I’m a wrestling game fanatic just like you but I’m a bit older than most of you. I’m 30 years old, the father of a beautiful baby girl, and owner of a very successful business. That’s why I decided to take up this cause.

I know game developers are going to take us a lot more seriously just because I’m an older guy with a solid background in giving people what they want. Sad, but true. They’re going to listen to me because I look like guy who knows what he’s talking about. I’m sure I’ll have much more success than if I was a pimply 13 year old in an NWO shirt.

Of course, I still wear my Austin 3:16 shirt in public just to piss off my wife 😉 All kidding aside, you can trust that I’m in this for the long haul because with a family and business to take care of I don’t have time to do something unless it’s going to be serious and 100% committed.

New web site address

It didn’t take long for the WGU website to outgrow it’s current host. Thanks to popular demand we’ll be moving to a faster server in the next few days. Not only that, but you can also find us a lot easier thanks to our new website address, which should be active by monday if not sooner. There will also be new areas such as “About Us” and “Help Us” as well as more quotes from some of your fantastic feedback. See, I told you I’m taking this seriously.

Media attention

Some of you may have noticed the WGU site being mentioned on some popular websites such as and others. I just wanted to publicly thank the owners of those sites and let you know that I plan to approach every wrestling and gaming site I can find about doing an article on us. We’re going to be everywhere. Game developers won’t be able to ignore us and that’s the plan! I also have a cool little publicity stunt in the works. But I’ll talk about that later.

THQ connection

It’s true! The owner of a new website has promised to use his connections with the THQ publicity department to get us some attention. Of course, we can’t promise anything but you never know where it could lead so keep your fingers crossed. WGcentral is also busy trying to get some exclusive WMX8 screen shots so check out the site, you might be surprised.

WGU forms new development company

This is easily the most exciting news I have this week. I spent a lot of time thinking about this whole project and I decided to do more than just a half- assed job. Why stop with just a website? I looked around and realized that I live near some of the best computer animation and game design schools in the world. Why not take advantage of my resources, recruit some talent, and just start BUILDING THE BLOODY GAME OURSELVES!

That’s right. This is not a joke. I’m interviewing candidates for our team next week and some of the people I’ve spoken to are very excited about being involved in such a passionate and exciting project. I’ve been reassured by people in the business that not only will it be possible to build a game every bit it as good as No Mercy, Fire Pro, or any of the Japanese games, but that we can absolutely implement the best features of each into one solid pro-wrestling masterpiece!

As you can imagine, this is a daunting task to undertake so I’m going to be depending on all of you for your support and input. And while I’m confident this new development company of ours can build the game to completion, it is my plan to convince a major developer to sign on in the early early stages of the game’s creation. This way the game could be completed much quicker and have a much bigger push behind it.

This is going to be one hell of a tough job but I know with all the rabid gamers out there behind the WGU we’ll pull it off. I’ll be keeping you informed and asking for advice regularily. I look forward to facing each and every one of you in an online battle royal one day soon 🙂 Until then, I’ve got some animators and programmers to phone back…

Dave W. aka Wishbone p.s. Newsletters will be sent out every friday from now on.
