so i guess ill get to the punch line when is the release date? i know i know theres probably been 4000 dates by now but lets get to it. this game has been known about since 2003....thats 8 years. thats quite a long time. further more what fans you have are probably be lost as pro wrestling x is largely regarded as that game that will never come out. hell duke forever has been in the making for 14 years. much like that game i dont think anyone believes this will come out even though duke has a new june release date.
why not just release what you have so far and call it a day? let people see it let it get support or no support(hopefully it doesnt suck so this isnt the case).
really there just doesnt seem like there is a big pay for that kind of length 8 years. so ya why not just finnally release what you have so far and update it later? let us get out hands on it and try it out finnally? hell people might donate more money if they like what they play.
perhaps im ranting and perhaps its not justified but still i cant help but feel this game should of been out 5 years ago. honestly it doesnt look THAT much different between now and then and they still fight in that one room. i just question what progress has been made or not to merit the long never ending development cycle. personally if i was your biggest financial backer i'd be lighting a fire under your but and demanding this get finished in 6 months or less with weekly updates so it doesnt drag on for eternity. im all for developers getting enough time to make a quality game and i generally loathe the rushed attitude of many games especially yearly games but still there is a limit to this. i think alan wake is a recent example word has it they werent done with it but microsoft got pissy with them saying its been 5 years finish it up already so they pushed and finished it and the game turned out well one of my favorites of 2010. something similar i feel needs to occur here. else ps4 might be rolling around and this game will still be in limbo.
i posted a topic probably 2 or 3 years ago asking when this was coming out as it was rumoured uprising was finnally going to be released and well here we are years later and its not out.
if you take this as negative well dont this is more of what the heck has been going on that its taken 8 years to come out? is this the next duke game?
Thanks for the post, kayne! I don`t take it negatively at all. But I do have one question for you as I want to be clear about your post. Are you saying that we should release a game that we consider unready because some fans might be impatient. I just want to be sure that you are really suggesting that such a move would be smart and in the best interest of the project going forward.
@Dave: Now Dave with all due respect sir. What do you consider as "unready" exactly? Can you list the most important things that need to be done/corrected first and the least important things after?
Like right now if it were to be released it is 1 on 1 playable right? I mean a regular match would be possible yes? Like we could walk around the ring and kick. punch, grapple and pin right?
Fair enough. By the way, I was not being cocky with the "sir" it was showing proper respect. In case you thought that I was being snotty. But if not please disregard. You know I have gotten into your face before (online) of course........lol. So I apologize if I came off strong in the past. I have the utmost respect for you regardless of what I have or might have stated in the past. I appreciate and look forward to what you (yourself) and your team are trying to do for wrestling games (PWX in particular of course).
The old me would still be riding you (for the good of the game of course) but you know the new me is learning to becoming more patient on the release of the game. Now yes, I do understand what you mean I get you can have 1 on 1 matches but I think the trouble here is, we wanna be able to see how smooth everything is. See some of the gltiches. I think if maybe we could see a sample of a one 1 on 1 match complete in it`s entirely. A full match then we could see and maybe understand even more from where you are coming from.
So please allow me to try to comprehende the mechanics of the game might still be glitchy I get that and some animations need to be touched up or something like that but a full 1 on 1 match I think would ease alot of us.
All in all, as others have said you don`t owe us anything but it would be nice for everything to come together and we can all be happy! Sounds like a great plan right?
yes releasing an unfinished game at least a demo at this point would probably be for the best. it shows progress has been made. it shows this isnt vapourware lets not kid ourselves games that get a 9 year development cycle are generally thought of as such.
and i am too generally curious as to what is so unfinished at this point that it cant be released?
i supposed the pressing point is what exactly is the final product supposed to look like? why is it considered too buggy for a public release? are there really that many bugs in it? is it just 1 on 1 matches? i know thats not impressive if thats the case but it would pass for a demo. the long awaited uprising demo from years back. i mean its been 9 years sure you have something that is worth showing the interested public and more than just pieced together videos of moves being done. it just seems like after 9 years there isnt much to show and a demo could prove otherwise. and as i said the longer this sits in development the harder it is to regain your loses and at this point im not sure its possible so i question how much longer this needs to sit in development and whether that is worth it anymore.
i know the dream is to have that amazing wrestling game....but it seems this project has hit too many speedbumps. its been 9 years. there has to be something to show for it at this point and im not seeing a lot of that. and releasing that even unfinished as some kind of demo to the folks that paid for the game years ago would probably go a long way in making people actually care about this game anymore and hey it might generate more funds with said interest. so i guess yes i am suggesting release what you have now and let people get there hands on it try it out see if its amazing see what needs work cause any game that is in development for 9 years clearly at some point lost its final vision and how to get there and i feel like a release of what you have now could help get this thing cranking by doing the following.
1. get some life on this board 2. get people to give a crap about this game anymore. 3.prove it isnt vapour ware. 4.let you guys know what the priorities really need to be. 5.generate possible more funds. 6.show your supporters your making real progress. not gonna lie they probably arent thinking your making a lot of progress at this point. 7.show that this isnt a joke of a game. it is in fact real. 8.confidence boost that you have something to show for all your hard work
theres probably more but thats a good enough list of reason as to why you should release the current project.
You make all good points. Don't get me wrong. I guess the point of contention is the "nine years" in development stigma. While it's true that I've been trying to get a game made in that period of time, the current playable version of PWX is one that was rebuilt from scratch (with existing assets) for "only" a few years. So it doesn't honestly represent a game that's been in development for nine years. I really do feel your frustration (hell, I'm personally and financially liable for it) and I am working every day with as many resources I have to get Uprising out the door. My lead programmer tell me that the next build I see will make the last six months of hard work look worth it and that there will only be "a few little things" left to do before Uprising is ready to ship. So there you go, you know as much as I do. Fingers crossed for everyone involved!!
while thats true the game may be the result only of a few years of work thanks to redoing it it still has the 9 years of work attached to it either way. you just scrapped the project and started over a few times but still 9 years of work.
and i wouldnt say im frustrated honestly i just happen to think about it now and then and wonder oh ya theres this game that was being made kind of thing far less than you probably are thinking being on the hook for it and hoping it gets a good return. and it does bug me whenever a game ive looked forward to at some point or not gets stuck in limbo. sadness and project hammer on the wii came to mind. especially sadness it was defently one of the games i got a wii for.
id be curious though to know what those little things are? little things in the world of programming can turn into big things and quickly lol and id be worried about fixing up too many little things for that very reason.
well that said i say the next build then seriously consider getting it out the door.
PWX will come out. Guaranteed. Even if my entire crew gets hits by a bus and I go bankrupt I'll release it as-is with a case study on what went right and what went wrong. Some have even suggested that we release all past broken and unfinished versions of PWX so you guys can see and play the different stages of PWX over the years.
That being said, I'm expecting the new build this weekend. My wife has threatened to call my programmer's wife if it isn't delivered by Sunday so lets just say the heat is on!
Dave, think about it like this--Guns 'n' Roses FINALLY released Chinese Democracy a few years ago after close to 15 years (I think) of development...it was certainly not bad by any means, but the LENGTHY wait for its actual release certainly hurt it.
The build worked really well. Collision detection is better than its ever been despite some really bad early design choices like the narrow distance between ring and stairway.
@Ichr788 re: "You know I have gotten into your face before (online) of course........"
I don't think you'd get in Dave's face in person. Really nice guy but he's big (in the strong, tough-looking sense.) I met him once during the early years of PWX. He personally delivered PWX T-shirts to my house.
@PWX_Dave - I hope you'll put yourself in the game. I was following your tweets during the most recent Raw broadcast. We had a dismal number of minutes in actual wrestling. I'd like to play your character & beat on CAWs of various WWE writers/creative team for a few hours.
@TolerancE: Hence, That`s why I stated "online" I`m not that stupid or reckless for that matter! LOL. Dave knows I am just kidding. You are a lucky guy to have had the opportunity to have met him because Dave is a really nice guy indeed!
