Welcome to Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #471
1) HUD Help? 2) What You Got? 3) Fire Pro Sucks
1) HUD Help? ************** Can you help us? I prefer wrestling games without on screen meters and such but PWX Uprising will give you the option to turn on the various indicators if you so desire. So as long as that's going to be an option how about telling us what kind of HUD you prefer if you wanted to look at it? Any previous wrestling games have something you like? Or do you have any ideas that haven't been done before? Uprising will mainly track five key stats, an overall 'health' and separate tracking for arms, legs, head, and torso. What would you suggest we do to represent those on screen? Leave us a forum message or Facebook comment if you'd like to participate in the design.
2) What You Got? ***************** Our graphics programmer would like an update on the kind of video cards you guys are rocking these days. We'd like to know how the vast majority of you will be seeing PWX Uprising as it will look different depending on the age and type of video card you have. So whatcha got? Leave us a message or comment and let us know pretty please. Thanks!
3) Fire Pro Sucks ***************** Judas Priest made an album with synthesizers. Metallica cut their hair and wore eyeliner. AKI made a fighting game with rappers. These were some of the most crushing and heartbreaking events for many fans. And now comes news that the Fire Pro Wrestling series has gone from the pinnacle of hardcore fan service to a casually pandering mess of stupid suck.
There's a preview video here: http://www.gamespot.com/events/paxeast2011/video.html?sid=6303627
And, as is quickly becoming the norm, Axe Bomber has the deepest and most intelligent write up on it: http://www.axebombermag.com/2011/03/fire-pro-wrestling-gameplay-and-info-revealed/
If there is any winner here it's our old friend Sanders Keel. No longer is "key members of the AKI team" the most misleading thing ever pitched to fans. Microsoft's Scott Fentel will now likely forever hold the title for Most Insulting Marketing to Wrestling Gamers with the line "everything you've come to expect from the Fire Pro Wrestling series" when describing this new game which quite literally has NOTHING we've come to expect from Fire Pro. I mean I get it, Scott. Really. I've got bills to pay, too. The industry is changing and this game honestly wasn't made for the relatively small existing Fire Pro crowd. That's ok if you're honest about what this game is and what it isn't. I'd like the guys at Spike to feed their families and if this is the opportunity they were offered then of course we all want them to make a living. But don't try to feed us a 99 cent cheeseburger by insisting it has everything a steak dinner does. We're not buying it. Literally.
In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.
