1) Gamer vs. Game Maker ***************
"If they had more buttons on an NES controller they would have used them."
and...
"...because the code is more efficient this way."
I see now why some games became harder to learn as new systems came out. It's because there is a general tendency among game programmers to want to use everything that is available to them. To be fair, some artists are also tempted to use every new tool whether they need it or not but I've noticed this a lot more recently with our programming team. As we tweak the gameplay for Uprising you've got me (Lead Designer, Cheque Writer, and Toilet Scrubber) arguing to keep the easy to use controller scheme while the programmers naturally want to write an easy to program controller scheme. The two ideals are not so closely related as you might think. And so far it's taken more than a few strong discussions to make the programming of the game serve the design and controller scheme and not the other way around. So far so good though. As long as I can clearly and efficiently explain WHY something was designed a certain way we've been able to keep things as I envisioned them. Does anyone remember the controller scheme for WCW Mayhem? That's what we're going to avoid here, so help me Superman.
2) Moves Added **************** We added a few new moves to the latest build of Uprising including a few springboard attacks. I could get used to seeing new stuff added and I can easily see why it's hard to stop letting stuff creep into your game. Can you blame me? It's been, oh, a few years that I've been trying to get a game made. Now that it's rolling along again smoothly it's hard to stop.
3) Video Game Museum...*shwing!* *************************** I haven't found any wrestling games here (yet) but if you're over 30 you have to check out this link and be prepared to choke back tears. I would trade my memories of all sexual encounters for one day alone in this place:
