As you may have read in this week's newsletter I'm looking for ideas on what to do with the Wrestling Gamers United web site. Wanna help out? Here's what I wrote in the newsletter:
*********************
I renewed the WrestlingGamersUnited.com domain name the other day. I know WGU has ran out of gas since we began work on PWX and our focus shifted to making a wrestling game rather than bitching and moaning about other people's wrestling games. But I just can't let the WGU internet presence die. Can't do it. But what the hell should we do with it? I had wanted to create and online wrestling game museum but Gaming Ring is already off to a great start with theirs and even Wikipedia pretty much has all the data a nerd like me could want. And I don't really follow wrestling game news like I used to so no sense making it a news site. Again, Gaming Ring is already doing a good job in that respect. So what to do, what to do. Any ideas? Wanna help do something productive with the site? I'm open to ideas so feel free to stop by the PWX forums and let me know if you have any ideas and if you'd like to help out at all.
I would love to help but I'm busy with my website. The only thing I can see it being is a large forum/community for wrestling game fans. I suppose a large community can take it from there. It would definitely be a good way to put the WGU name to use.
@ Dave: I mean these forums. They're in desperate need of a code-based facelift. Plus bring back the BBCode (if people wanted to read unformatted text, they'd simply click on the "Printable Version" icon), and even give us a BBCode toolbox so we don't have to spend extra time typing the tags out.
@Action: How do you like that process anyway? Finding the community games pipeline and XNA (assuming) fairly good to work with?
@FullMetal: Eh, I kinda like not having to worry about mondo signatures and imbeded tubgirl pics showing up. But I know what you mean and I'll mention it to Eric. What features do you want most in a forum?
Yes. it's pretty nice to work with. XNA and C# is very nive to code with too. And I LOVE developing for a console. Because I know exactly what it will be like for everybody. No more "It's doesn't run, it freezes, my computer isn't fast enough" complaints.
It's just a matter of somehow standing out in a completely oversaturated venue. There are TONS of Xbox indie games.
I have mucho respect for you and the wrestling games you have made and are making. How`s about a "tag team" themed wrestling game with tag team finishers next? Kinda like the WWF/WWE of the 80`s and early 90`s with tag teams knockoffs of course. :)
P.S. Also maybe you can add some physics/weapons/tables//ladders/thumbtacks stuff? Like maybe an extreme rules type match with a weapons wheel or something like that, what do ya think?
What?! Somewhere I have a picture of me typing a WGU newsletter with one arm while rocking a newborn to sleep with the other. If I can do it so can you! But seriously, if you can manage to even get ten minutes to yourself per day for the first six months of raising a newborn then you'll be doing better than most parents. And the sleep. Sleep now man. Sleep now.
lol. I know, but don't forget, this is just a hobby for me. I have a whole other company to run. Small business owner plus father of twins equals no time for wrestling game hobbies. If any free time occurs, it will be used to play NHL 11 :) But probably used for, well... sleep :)
@PWX_ Dave: Thanks for letting me discuss things here, even if sometimes is off-topic (I apologize and will try to remain on topic). Your`re the best Dave!
@Action937: Thanks for the reply. I have another question and I apologize if it is bold and or out of line in anyway but would it be possible for you to release the source code for HBW v.4? Since you not making anymore wrestling games anymore you could contribute to the PC wrestling game community, maybe help educate them with your source code.
I am just asking because Mat Dickie did and it created a ever supportive/expansive and wonderful mod community over at the Mpire Mall forum (sorry Dave for the mention of that site but sometimes PWX is discussed over there too) but anyway speaking of the WGU site, I think it should stay and maybe be used for the PWX games and wrestling video/wrestling games chat and general chat topics/news.
Anyway good luck with the wife and kids Action937. Thanks again for everything! You are a Legend man! :)
Well all of the source code for HBW is already all there. The only thing else that's compiled is the engine - which I'm not allowed to release. But theoretically none of what I've written is hidden for HBW. That was always free source code and that game was always just for educational purposes.
@action937: I'd say PWX is still a (very expensive) hobby for me, too ;) Don't business have to actually MAKE money? End of September, eh? Great time of year for a birthday as they can start the school year by winning over friends with the AWESOME birthday party their daddy will throw them every year!
Absolutely - I'll have all of the kids bring their laptops and we'll have a big ol' PWX tournament every year :) I'll just need the PWX logo to put on the cake.
Oh wow, a boy and a girl? I always thought that would be an amazing parenting experience. You get to experience the full spectrum at once...for better or worse! Do you have names picked out?
