I actually asked about this on GameFAQs but I figure it'd better to post it here. IMO, no wrestling game has perfected the tag-team match. Fire pro does an okay job, by making ring position REALLY count. If you aren't on your half of the ring you are in major danger of losing when you are pinned since it will be hard for your partner to get to you.
However outside of that Fire Pro's Tag-team matches are pretty weak. King of Colosseum's Tag matches are similar. Smackdown's are even worse, ring positioning means nothing and if you understand how the game works you can stay in the ring for as long as you want by countering the ref's grapples that will send you to the outside. Even if he does catch you, you can easily come right back in as soon as you regain control.
So my question is; do you guys at PWX have any idea on rewarding players for playing a tag match "by the rules"? Of course a lot of the fun of real Tag matches is seeing the outside man come in to even the odds so his partner can make a hot tag, but I have yet to see a game simulate that.
The only way I can think of to keep tag-matches mostly by the rules is that by coming into the ring illegally it should lower a certain % of damage that your partner can make until he tags back out. Even this doesn't seem like a great idea but its the only one I have. I just know that Tag-team matches have a long ways to go before they are close to perfected.
We're totally with you on this one. So much so in fact that we're considering devoting an entire expansion pack specifically to tag team matches. Their rules, mechanics, entrances, double team moves, etc.
Doing single player right has already proven to be a massive undertaking and tag teams would be at least five times more so. Not to mention online multiplayer with tag teams. I just don't want to dedicate our resources to doing tag team matches half-assed justice.
The Japanese Xbox game The Wild Rings had a pretty good tag team interference system. I haven't played it in a while but I think the first time you enter the ring as the illegal man you have about 10 seconds before the referee makes you leave. If you continually try to interfere you get less and less time until eventually the ref cuts you off as soon as you enter the ring. But if you use it sparingly it "recharges" and you have plenty of interference time when you need it.
I like the CHIKARA rules where when one man hits the floor the other is automatically tagged in. Maybe there should be a set up do were the ref does what the rules legitimately say. As in you interfere and you get disqualified. Altough i believe high paced tornado-esque tag matches can be truly amazing. (NOAH)
I have played a lot of wrestling games, but I have never ever seen a situation, where you are on the mat and you are "barely able to stand" and you crawl to your partner to make the tag.If this could be implemented in the game,it would be pretty cool...
The only thing I liked in tag team matches of wrestling games so far is the tag moves.Guys I don't know who has played wwf\e raw but the tag team and the concept of this game stinks. What about when your partner is down for the count will u have to press a button to get in the ring or will it be like the old wrestling games the player gets directly in and has no idea what to do?
