1) Never Mind the BS 2) Pain but Mostly Pleasure
1) Never Mind the BS ************************ There has always been this unwritten battle between myself and the artists on the crew. Whether they admit it or not they always advocated (pushed...hard) for making art assets as high poly and detailed as humanly possible. I accept that. An artist wants their work to look the best it can. No game artist these days could easily accept that I'd be perfectly happy with N64 level graphics as long as the game was fun. It's just not...cool. But I was a bit taken back with what our lead programmer told me today. The conversation went something like this:
Programmer: "So the art content now is constructed perfectly for use as an Xbox Indie Game."
Dave: "Yeah that's cool but for right now we're focused on just PC and hopefully Linux and Mac."
Programmer: "But with PC we have to keep it to a certain graphics baseline like DirectX 9. With the 360 we could do so much more and make it look better than Mass Effect 2."
Dave: "I don't care if it looks that good."
Programmer: "But think of all the bleeding edge light mapping we could do!"
Dave: "FML"
Look. Here's the deal. I don't give a goddam f'n ass what super duper light mapping voodoo we can do. I don't care how good we can make PWX look right now. In fact, I absolutely refuse to spend another damn dime making PWX look any better than it already does. Do you think it looks good as is? Thank you. Do you think it looks like ass? Fine. This never ending trap of of chasing the perpetually moving goal of the latest and greatest visual potential is at least partially to blame for the lengthy PWX development in the first place. It looks as good as it's gonna look until after we release a game at least as fun as No Mercy. Until then, graphics don't matter one teeny tiny bit.
2) Pain but Mostly Pleasure *************** I'm going to officially send out a press release announcing our side project soon enough. But for now I'll drop a few clues for fun. See if you can figure out what the project is. Here's the clue. For this project I will needing to speak with the following people:
Abdullah the Butcher Stan Hansen Harley Race Jushin Liger Bret Hart Terry Funk Antonio Inoki
And just because I can't help gloating like the nerd I am I have to say I've already spoken with or arranged interviews with at least four of these men. Cool project or what? But what could it be?
In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.
Thank you for your support, Dave Wishnowski

It definitely deals with wrestlers I am more interested in than the current product that is out there from WWE and TNA.
Harley and Stan are two legit tough guys that I enjoyed watching work. Harley especially...Hansen is a little bit more unknown to me, as I haven't seen a ton of his work. What I have seen from him I have enjoyed though.
Bret and Liger brought in more excitement while still dealing with the fundamentals of what I think makes for good wrestling. They know how to tell a story in the ring and not just go from high spot to high spot. Liger helped DEFINE the high spot, but his matches didn't just rely on them as most junior/cruiser/light heavyweight matches seem to nowadays.
Abdullah and Inoki never really did much for me, but I am not as familiar with their work as I probably should be. Most of my memories of Abdullah deal with his god-awful work in WCW. And I think that was more the fault of how it was booked than how it was performed.
Funk...well...I like Funk prior to his ECW days when he could really go. His ECW and later work wasn't bad, but he relied to much on garbage and high spots for my tastes. His time in the WWF (I distinctly remember watching him on Saturday Nights Main Event) and his run against Flair for the title with their 'I Quit' match being high lights.
As far as this dealing with Japan, I really don't think of Japan when I think of Bret...sure he spent a little time there, but not much really. I do recall a pretty good match between Bret and Tiger Mask II (Mitsuhara Misawa) but that was more of an exception than the rule.
I might have my wild guess. And I wont be able to be around that day TT. But that sound like an incredible thing. I recently bumped in uwf and now people are mad at stiff or just me :p. good news
