Welcome to Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #413
1) Pants 2) Stripped 3) Guns are Added 4) All Men Play on Ten
1) Pants ********** You ever have one of those weeks where everything goes right? Me neither until this week. It must be some kind of record since we first opened the studio. Every morning the lead programmer and I discuss what needs to be done that day and every evening this week I've gotten nothing but positive news that everything now works exactly the way he said it would. Clap. Clap. If anything, it's going too well (knock on wood) and he's been requesting that the artists might as well "make some new levels and weapons since we'll have time." I ain't falling for that one. Still, it's better to hear that than, "I don't know why Dane's pants are on backwards." Or my personal favorite programmer quote, "Umm let's just say in the system requirements that it won't work on Toshiba's and then we won't have to worry about the crashing." True story.
2) Stripped *************** We have taken so much bloated and useless code out of the engine that runs Uprising that we are essentially going to have our own proprietary wrestling engine once we're done. Funny the way things are working out. I spent so much time and money licensing various game engines thinking it would give us some insurance against unpredictability and we end up rolling our own engine anyway. Our previous programmers would have been happy about this. Well, at least the programmers who were really programmers. They all complained about how useless commercial game engines were for making a wrestling game. You'd think after building our game in no less than six different engines I'd have learned my lesson. Better late than never and at least now we'll honestly be able to say we have our very own wrestling engine. We can sell it or give it away for free if we like. Nice freedom to have and we don't have to pay a royalty to anyone. That's just too sweet.
3) Guns are Added ************* The first five panels of this cartoon were stolen from my diary. Just replace "guns" with "French Canadians":
4) All Men Play on Ten ****************** I've got all of the state of the art digital audio software and tools a man could want. The things you can do today with a PC since I received my college education in recording arts is humbling. But still, even with every digital guitar amp modeler under the sun you just can't fake the force and feel of standing in front of a 6-foot Marshall stack cranking out Angel of Death or Symptom of the Universe. This project and life in general has aged me considerably but I'm eternally thankful for never losing my adolescent love affair with loud guitars and melting power transformers. That's just something you'll never find on a torrent site. Oh, and I also recorded and edited some new sound effects for Uprising in between day dreaming of replacing Ozzy's guitarist. 39 is the new 21...right?
In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.
[cite] sirdingus:[/cite]This is starting to get wonderful guys!
I just want to say how much I am loving the progress your new lead programmer is getting the team to make!
I would love for you guys to get a table into Uprising. Or a Kendo Stick. Or a Light Tube! :D
Actually... I would just settle for items not disappearing from the screen. Always hated that.
There`s not even a release date yet and Dave won`t share the deadline with us (not that he has to but it would be nice) so we really have NO idea when or if this game is even coming out. So don`t put all of your eggs into one basket yet sirdingus.
[cite] sirdingus:[/cite]When did I put eggs in any basket? I just said things are getting wonderful. I am appreciating the development and progress they are making.
I would love for you guys to get a table into Uprising. Or a Kendo Stick. Or a Light Tube!= Eggs in a basket. They are "trying" to release the game and you mention Tables, Light Tubes and a Kendo stick?
Look man, I`m just venting some steam here. It`s nothing personal. I don`t wanna argue with anyone. But we keep getting promises and set backs. If I sat back and didn`t express myself, my opinions wouldn`t get heard. I`d like to think I have a right to express my views isn`t that what this board is for?
Yeah, but it's been tough as well. Everything you remove causes more problems that in turn require more work to solve. I tell ya, if we had to build this game over again from scratch we'd do a lot of things differently. Little mistakes at the beginning magnify into crippling issues a year later. But we're doing well. I believe the clean up will be worth it.
