Anyone here use Steam? The reason I ask is we had an agent this week if we would consider distributing our games via Steam if it were the only option. Online distributors are having a little turf war these days in case you haven't heard and a lot of them are now refusing to sell games that use Steam. I dunno. What do you guys think?

Well Steam is huge and could get you some serious publicity.

The only thing that sucks is it means i'll have to buy an anti-viral program and download it on the windows part of my machine instead of downloading it onto my Mac and transferring it over.

But I would do it. Its the biggest and best well known. When people log in to play say Half Life or whatever they will see PWX. Can't get that kind of free advertising very easily nowadays.

I would definitely get the game on Steam. It's probably the best thing that ever happened to indie gaming. I've played a bunch of great games I'd never have heard about otherwise (Audiosurf, Braid, World of Goo, Mr. Robot, Darwinia, Everyday Shooter, etc) because they were presented front-and-center on Steam.

Thanks for the feedback guys! We're working our way through the process. I'll keep you posted but so far our chances are as good as any other indy developer already on Steam.

I don't like the idea. I've never used Steam and I don't think I want to install it just to download & play PWX. Just is a waste of space to me. Also, don't they get a piece of our money? It's only me but I don't want my money funding another FPS.

I'm having mixed experiences with Steam, myself. I love that it pretty much works like Xbox Live but for PC with the achievements and everything but the service itself is a little spotty. I've only had one game not launch properly for me so it's so far more good than bad. But thanks for the feedback everyone. It really helps steer our decisions.

Love steam. I generally ONLY buy games on steam. I will make exceptions for quality games that AREN'T on steam..but the level of publicity you can get from having your game on steam is crazy. I could also gift the game through steam to my other friends.

I've had some mixed experiences with Steam as well... But If that's how it's gonna be distributed, then I wouldn't have any problems with it. As long as I get it, and get it fairly soon, then I don't care how it comes.
