1) No Weapons?

    1) No Weapons?
    ***********************

So I get a programming report this week that goes something like this:

"The engine upgrade has gone well and everything works fine. Except that the weapon system is now completely broken and we're looking at rewriting it from scratch. The game crashes if you even try to use a weapon. We might want to hire another programmer or this could further delay Uprising's release."

Deep breath, Dave. Go to your happy place. I'm watching Stampede Wrestling while Megan Fox and Callisto (http://denise.angband.org/images/callisto.jpg) fight over who's going to be my foot stool. Hey hey ladies watch the hair pulling...

So this is a pretty big deal right? Can't ship Uprising without weapons! But it would take at least a few weeks to rewrite the weapon code and where would that money come from? We'd have to take it from somewhere else in the budget. Cut some bug fixes? Maybe cut that A.I. polish by a few weeks. Lose the pdf manual? Frickin' frick!

But false alarm. Exactly 62 minutes later the problem was found. Two programmers were using different versions of a compiler and one version was not compatible with the newest engine upgrade. Once the other programmer identified the problem he fixed it easily. And that's precisely why we've learned to never panic.

But we also had some happy accidents. Nothing that will help Uprising necessarily but we do have some new code in our hands that will be put to good use in the near future. The code is for things like environmental/object triggers and cut scene editing. It will come in handy when we start getting things like ladder and cage matches going (and tables and exploding cowbells) and the cut scene editor will first be put to use with wrestler entrances and then story mode cut scenes. That's still all in the future after Uprising but it's nice to know the code base for those things is now in place and stable (knock on wood).

And on that note, have a great weekend!

In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.

    Thank you for your support,

BTW, the actress who played Callisto in Xena was Hudson Leick.
