Just a thought... in No Mercy you could swap your attention on who you were looking at. But you always were looking at someone...
Will/Does PWX have a feature that could let you not be forced to look at your opponent? So that you could turn your back and walk away and not be forced to say spin around? Or so you could do manual targeting on your opponent instead of a forced system. Its kinda like Auto-Aim vs. Manual Aim in FPS games.
Suppose you're in say a 3 way dance or anything with 2 other opponents. Both are on the floor but one is on the right side of the ring and one is directly in front of you on the outside. You could start say running towards the one in front of you but turn and dive at the guy on the right. He would be less prepared and not get away. When someone is autotargetted you know he is likely to come at you so its easier to defend against.
Hmmmm interesting question. Can we do it? Yes. But until we start getting Battle Royals happening I'm not sure how much demand there would be for such a feature. Can you think of more uses for "manual aim" that would be fun? IF we had a compelling reason do add something like this we might put it higher up on the priority list.
Seems like a challenge. I've been busting my ass in my Masters in Economics for a few weeks now so lets see if I can rise to the occasion.
Uses (in no particular order);
- It would be useful for those wishing to utilize PWX in order to produce videos for their E-Feds. While this is not a particular desire of mine, those who wish to produce such videos would be able to turn their character's back to their opponent to celebrate to the crowd which could result in an attack and resurgence from the opponent.
- It adds to the whole idea that PWX is freedom. That is basically the underlying theme I get from PWX. It is freedom from WWE (re: unique rosters), freedom from the Smackdown Engine (re: obvious reasons), freedom to create (re: mods). So it only adds to the idea of a free flowing game. I imagine the feature kinda working like... a Cross of an FPS and ... say ... trying to remember a game where you had total control... Grand Theft Auto. In that game you chose when to auto target and otherwise it was manual. You could run around and shoot at will but could auto target if you wish.
- I remember times in No Mercy when playing a handicap or tag team match. I would hold up triangle and run at one opponent and then nail a clothesline. I would quickly then hold up-triangle and the direction pad towards the other opponent and nail a clothesline. But then the game would choose to change my attention to whoever I was presently auto-targetted to. This could imply the second guy I hit I would have my back to. Now suppose I was premature and missed on the move. The game would spin me around presenting my back to the opponent. This would give them the ability to strong strike me in the back or grapple from behind. Not an advantageous situation. Of course if I was smart I would change my attention with the controls. However, if I was in manual mode this would be redundant.
- It could add a layer of difficulty in PVP. Suppose I was playing someone on Hotseat or via the Internet. If there was an option in match controls that both players play in Manual (or 1 in manual and 1 in auto etc.), then our matches would have more complexity added. We would be forced to circle with our opponents instead of relying on the cpu to auto adjust our position to perfectly face our opponent. This would add difficulty for the player in a PVP environment. How many non-stats based online games can increase difficulty in the PVP environment? Not that many. I suppose any FPS that offers auto aim and manual aim would have this feature but I Can't think of many that do let you change this.
- Remember in no mercy when you would run towards the ramp in order to go backstage? But then when you stopped running the game would make you circle x-degrees to face your opponent? This always just took me out of it. I did not ask the game to spin me. I was running in the opposite direction. It was kinda a feeling of "This is a game, now play under our rules". I suppose this falls under my point of freedom.
This is all I got for now. Obviously this is not a "add it or the game blows" type of mechanic but I can't see how its addition would cripple gameplay. It would offer us a choice of complexity. But not mandatory.
Ahhh I see what you're getting at. I agree that it could add a new level of difficulty that would appeal to the more experienced gamers especially during multiplayer. Same goes for capping efed videos. I'm going to look into it for you...

Manual targeting would also come in handy for tag team matches no? Say you wanna nail your opponent`s partner to the outside of the ring?
Yea. It'd be neat if you're in your opponents corner and you knock down your opponent with a strong punch. Then you pull the Joystock towards their partner with a hard strike and nail them without having to use the change focus button
True but in the case of the N64 Controls it required you to reach over to the triangles and then hit the B. In this case you can skip the triangle. What I mean is. You basically always (naturally) direct your stick in the direction of whom you wish to attack. It skips 1 button.
