Welcome to Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #394
1) First Person Wrestling 2) New Book
1) First Person Wrestling *********************** Good news on the technical front. Crew member Bill proposed a solution for easily editing the audio and event triggers in our animations and it...worked! We could get used to this kind of success. This past week had some minor issues to work out as crew came back online. Relatively simple things like server access, bad monitors, missing files, etc. But it's all getting worked out. Funny how the thing you assume will be easy (file access) can give you headaches while things you assume will take days or weeks of R&D (trigger editing in old animations) come together in a snap.
One thing we have working in the current build of Uprising which may or may not make it to the final release is manual camera control. Don't like the default camera angle? Change it. And I don't mean by picking a preset of our choosing, I mean literally grab the camera and drag it to anywhere you want it and continue playing. Pan, tilt, and even zoom to your heart's desire. Is it a useful feature? Well I like it. I used it grab a new screenshot for Facebook today. Personally, I like the camera zoomed out quite a lot while I play. Gives me a sense of playing from a fan's point of view which is nice. Of course, there's no way for us to go through and completely idiot proof a free roaming camera. You can put the camera in some pretty impractical and unplayable positions. But hell, to each his zone, eh?
2) New Book *************************** Fans of Canadian wrestling like me are all very excited over the recent release of Wrestling in the Canadian West, from Crowbar Press. Written by Canadian wrestler and avid historian, Vance Nevada, the book covers essentially every wrestling federation that ever existed in Western Canada from Stampede Wrestling in Alberta to ECCW in Vancouver. As Vance himself is a key player in the wrestling scene here there are plenty of insider stories from wrestlers, promoters, and fans, all of whom were happy to share their stories for the book. Complete with detailed title histories and rare photos this book is a real treat for those of us who grew up with wrestling in Western Canada and continue to attend indy promotions which are also covered with equal respect from Vance. I'm about half way through the book and already it's one of my faves. I just wish it were even bigger and went into greater detail but given the scope of the subject and can see why that wasn't entirely possible.

If I have any criticism about the book it's that Vance wasted valuable space by including the musings of some dork who makes video games.
In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.

Camera Control? Sweet! Can the cameras follow the action wherever they are? Can I actually have a literal 1st Person View? If so... now I can actually get to see the glass ceiling! =)
But seriously a controllable camera would be a eFedder's dream. Making shots from DoR1/2 in my eFed UGP was hard work. To make backstage shots we (not me, but the guy with the TV card) had to play through the story-mode collecting shots.
