I'm not sure but I think some of those CAW parts are from Day of Reckoning. Can't wait for more vids, if they are lifting from DoR I might be interested in picking this up.
EDIT:
After reading the article and checking out what they promise I think they might have a interesting game after all.
Single button reversal. (Booo!!! Maybe IDK gotta wait) Create-A-Scene Create-A-Story Create-A-Show Create-A-Match (WHAT THE HECK?!?!) SHARE your show/story online Custom highlights Brand new CAW Realistic fabrics (NO PAINTED ON STUFF [They admitted it xD]) Fast CAW loading times CAW sharing NEXT TO NO HUD (pop-ups over wrestlers) Body Language Tutorial Mode (possibly similar to DoR's one) Some gameplay mechanics changed. New pinfall kickout system. More grapples. "Manual Transitions". Edit Superstars (Like No Mercy to an extent)
EDIT 2: XD at this line. "you'll be able to unleash your inner Vince McMahon (or, if you're evil, your inner Vince Russo)"
When we can create our own rings and arenas, I'll consider this sort of claim to be more genuine. The fact exiting wrestlers will be editable is a step in the right direction however. (Ideally, all existing wrestlers should themselves be CAWs, increasing the editing possibilities somewhat.)
This stuff is dangerously close to some of the stuff I was outlining in the early days of PWX... especially the create-a-storyline. I remember I was pretty much the only person arguing fromn the bells and whistles perspective :p
It's kind of scary that some of the concepts I drew up in a fair amount of detail ended up being used eventually in WWE games...
For instance: -Timeline Editor CAE was used in DOR -Ability to press buttons to do different taunts during entrances -Create a storyline/show... the fact that they're including this one is kind of blowing my mind. This is another one where I wrote up a long, LONG post on how it could work/be implemented. I never thought the E would put it in one of their games.
Scary... hey, quick question, since I haven't bought the last 2 games in this series. Have they finally made it so that you can use mp3s as your entrance music?
I have to wonder how they intend to follow up with 2011? Maybe they don't. Maybe upping the depth and customization is a negotiation tactic to make it damn near impossible for WWE to consider letting any other publisher/developer start over with a new franchise. Imagine WWE games going back to the drawing board like the TNA game? Yikes.
No idea about the MP3 thing. Never bothered to try.
Hey DO, see anything familiar in this pic? Look really really closely....
They really are trying to add everything to this one, aren't they? The only problem that I may see with it is that they'll end up dropping half the things in 2011, XD... If there is one...
But, weird, I remember in 05-06, around the days of TNA iMPACT's first game announcement, hanging around the TNA IGN forums, posting quite a lot of ideas, along with a 'Create-A-Show' type mode. It wasn't that long, but it had a lot of good ideas for the game.
... I'm not liking Create-A-Match... I feel as if too many people are going to make an inferno Hell in a cell Extreme Rules and just screw up everything by putting a huge amount of weapons at ringside.
[quote][cite] PWX_Dave:[/cite]Create-a-show is an epic idea but it relies on the same crowd that plays online to make and trade shows. God help us all.[/quote]
See, that was my concern when I first read about it. But I got to thinking, Little Big Planet, alot of people have posted some truly terrible levels, and on the same note alot of people have posted some truly amazing levels. I think the same could apply with 2010.
I've seen some of the new gameplay. No real improvements to report. The new strong grapple positions seem interesting, but the game engine seems to force the player to use certain holds more than others. The resultant wrestling isn't as varied as the animators have allowed it to be.
Dark Offspring, I know how you feel... I think that perhaps quite a few people have suggested these ideas though. I've copied-and-pasted an email below which I sent to THQ on 5th Jan 09...
"Hi there,
I felt compelled to write to you about a feature which I feel would greatly enhance the Smackdown vs Raw experience.
How about a Create-your-match system? Players would be able to build thier own match type which would give them a set of variables to choose from, for example:
Match name Match length How the match can end- eg. Pinfall, submission only, table break, slam your opponent, first blood etc. Number of participants/teams Location: e.g. ring, cage, backstage
...and so on. I think a really flexible set of rules is something that SvR currently lacks. If you could imcorporate a system like above, where players could save and share their match types, then it would greatly enhance their experience and give them even greater control, which I'm sure you'll agree is the key word in making a good wrestling game. The marketing ideas would be abundant, with you being able to bill the game as having literally hundreds of match types, and players being able to "wage war on their own terms" etc.
Anyway, I'd love to hear what you think of this idea.
All the best for 2009."
... so I supppose it's good to see THQ listening...
^Did they actually reply to the e-mail? Because, when I sent about 3 pages worth of ideas for iMPACT to Midway sometime in 2005, I got a giant reply back saying 'Sorry, your ideas cannot be sent to the development team.'
Anyways, while I agree that there will be spectacular shows/matches/whatever, there are going to be some idiotic ideas that should've NEVER been made. They'll probably have been made 20 times as well... Matches turn into absolute stupidity by putting everything in the match, shows where characters the person hates gets aids, scenes that... well... it's obvious what that's going to be...
Apparently, you can only use a CAW for 10 occurences (matches or cutscenes) (out of a possible 500) in any given storyline.
If you think this isn't too bad, I'm not explaining it right. You are only allowed 10 events TOTAL using ANY CAW. so you can use one CAW for 10 cutscenes, or 2 CAWs for 5 events each, or have one CAW 5 on 5 match or whever and then you're done.
Basically, one instance of the nWo coming out and you'd never be able to see them again in your storyline.
Gotta love THQ. They're just so consistent in their futility, aren't they?
Well, the news is new and a little unclear, but from what I'm gathering, it seems to be a restriction in order to keep the size of the storylines down when you upload them...
And THQ couldn't be arsed to have offline and online CAW restrictions be different, so there you go.
I suppose a workaround to this is starting a new storyline every time you run one show... but its still a giant pain in the ass.
I think the last thing THQ wants anyone to do is create any lasting value in a single WWE game. WMX8 might not have been so scorned had No Mercy not come before it.
What a disappointing game. They added like 20 new double team moves but at the expense of that they also took out some double team and tag team finishers like
"The Doomsday Device" (even though it was called The Death Device and it was poorly animated)
"Backbreaker Into Leg Drop"
"Both 3D Deathdrops"
"The Hart Attack" or what was DX`s tag finisher in SvR 09.
I actually like it. It's the best one they've ever done, IMO, and I usually hate SD. The one problem for me is still reversals. There's no way, if you're doing an offensive move, to protect yourself from being reversed. All you can do is hope that you aren't reversed and, if you are, hope that you can reverse the reversal. It makes for an unrealistic and unbalanced game. An easy fix would be to let the offensive player hit the reversal button when the icon appears like the defensive player already does. If the offensive player has better timing then he prevents his move from being reversed. Allowing you to reverse moves twice (at initial lock-up and in a lock-up) is also a dumb idea. If you can't block the grapple, then any reversals from inside the grapple should depend on momentum like in AKI games.
If the restricted number of CAWs in storylines is a dealbreaker for people then I advise checking out the Wii version. It has no such limitations (but also no online modes).
