1) Free venues for Uprising **************************** With regard to downloadable content for Uprising we may have at least one additional free venue available soon after launch. The side project we're working on is designated non-profit which means if we offer the side project venue as downloadable content we won't be able to charge for it unless of course we offer to donate all the proceeds to charity. That might not be a bad idea either.
2) Misawa ********************** A lot of you probably know by now that Japanese wrestling icon, Mitsuharu Misawa, has died tragically following an injury received in the ring this past week. I'm no journalist, but from what I've been able to learn it appears as though he suffered a spinal injury from a back drop he received at the hands of his opponent, Akitoshi Saito.
Even if you're not a big Japanese wrestling fan you've likely experienced Misawa's presence in almost any import wrestling game. He's usually at the top of almost every Japanese wrestling game roster. His movesets are often included in U.S. wrestling games and if you've ever enjoyed the Tiger Driver in No Mercy you have Misawa to thank.
There are far more qualified fans than myself to eulogize Misawa so I'll leave it to them. There are also many pictures and videos of the tragic events floating around the net. I won't post pics of the impact that killed him. Unnecessary and disrespectful to his family in my opinion. I know if my father or brother had died that way I wouldn't want images of it splattered around the internet.
In any case, the loss of Misawa to the Japanese people is major. It would be like losing Hogan in North America. And unlike other pro wrestling deaths that are a result of drug abuse, suicide, or organ failure, Misawa's death is different. This is a man who died doing what he loved and is tragic in the sense that it didn't have to happen and he didn't see it coming. He was one of the best at what he did and I don't think anyone would have predicted this could happen from a relatively simple back drop. It's not like such a thing happens all the time or he died falling from a 40ft cage through tables onto concrete.
That being said, imagine if this had happened in the WWE live on RAW? Honestly, as someone who LOVES pro wrestling and wants the performers to live long healthy lives I could do without seeing another head drop again ever in my life.
...at this point I had a rather strong rant that Eric wisely convinced me to rethink. Suffice it to say that even after I've posted a kinder gentler version of the rant we may lose (and gain) a few supporters.
3) Fair, Balanced, and Epically Stupid ************************************************** Ok, so Donald Trump "bought" Monday Night Raw from Vince McMahon. I don't think there was a single wrestling fan of any age who didn't realize this was just a story line. So why is it that the network had to issue an apology to news outlets because the news organizations ran the story as if it were actually TRUE? Seriously?! How much faith can we have in the intelligence of our news reporters if they were fooled by an obvious wrestling story line? They make fun of wrestling and call it low brow entertainment but they're the ones who think it's real. Clap. Clap. Clap.
4) New Lucha game! ******************* Check it out. Looks like a new Mexican wrestling (AAA promotion) game is coming to current gen consoles. It looks a bit Impact-ish but hell at least it's something new and not the same old WWE or puro rosters we've seen a hundred times:
