1) If There Was Blood...
***********************
Not that you'll be missing much with the lack of blood in Uprising because all we had planned for the first release was a simple decal system not unlike Fire Pro or No Mercy. Although we were working on some cool tweaks like adding blood to weapons when you hit a bleeding opponent. Check this screenshot:

Sadly, we ran into a slight conflict right around the time we introduced weapons to the game.
Our funding deal with Telefilm gave them the right to make demands with regard to the levels of violence and sexuality in the game. At one point they were even insisting we remove any and all weapons from the game. We pushed back on that and the steel chair remains but we did concede on the blood. No need to push our luck. Besides, absolutely nothing stopping us from self funding our own hardcore deathmatch expansion down the road. It was touchy there for a while, though. There was even a short lived scare about having a female character in the game due to the potential for male-on-female violence.

Read the fine print in any development contract you sign.

p.s. Isn't that screenshot neat? There is just something satisfying about seeing Hawk struggle to his feet after a bloody chair shot from good old Starman. Gotta love modding wrestling games!

2) Change of Heart
**********************

<Boring business talk alert>

Speaking of Telefilm, they recently made our lives a lot easier. It was a bit challenging to raise funding when originally Telefilm was demanding they be repaid in full first before any other investor or lender saw a dime for themselves. Considering how hard it is to raise funding these days even without a mammoth Telefilm loan you can see where that little detail might further hinder things. So I was pleased to hear recently that they've announced they will loosen their grip on first recoupment position and let any other investors get their money back first before Telefilm takes their share. Whew. That news couldn't come at a better time.

Eric showed me this today. Tell me it doesn't sum us up a little too perfectly:

.. I gotta say you totally lost me on this week's subtitle :)
1.
You finally made my mouth salvate when i saw that pic of Starman & Hawk. It was an awesome pic. Although the blood could use work but its only for show of course.

Of course i wish it was Hawk holding the chair.

Personally, I don't think blood is needed in Uprising. The wrestlers are in an empty gym, so why would there be any need for blading? It's not like there are any bloodthirsty spectators for them to please...

Thx SirDingus; what had happened was, Nintendo was concerned about Mortal Kombat's blood content, and Acclaim changed it to SWEAT on the SNES release (as well as making many of the Fatalities a lot less "fatal"-looking).
Needless to say, fan reaction was hostile (How DARE they wimpify the home version!) and Mortal Kombat II had buckets of the red stuff, and went on to become one the 3 best-selling SNES games of all time.

looking good nice to see some actual info in the updates.for a game for the fan i feel disheartened by the lack of weapons as i think its something really missing from the smackdown games but like you said a addon pack, however i wouldn't like to see a huge price for something you can get in a ps1 wrestling game. is there actually gonna be anything but singles matches in the releases, are the grand plans gone? also are those the finshed charecters, i dont know if its the jpg conversion but the textures seem really off and jaggy?

ant

ps can i get a credit for harsh word for motivation :D
good job guys starting to impress me :D

That was a screen captured with Fraps directly to jpeg format so it doesn't look quite as sharp as it should.

We don't plan to charge very much at all, if anything, for most updates to the core game and it's content. I suspect the mod community will take care of a lot of basic content for free anyway.

I'm happy to hear we are winning you back to our side, ant ;)
2.
how close are you to release?, i hope these informative game updates continue :D

From a purely technical standpoint we are less than 60 days from release. But from a contractual standpoint....
