Welcome to Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #373

    1) PWX: Forever
    2) Cheap Fun
    3) Yukes Redeems

    1) PWX: Forever
    ***********************
We like to joke that Duke Nukem Forever is going to be released before a PWX game ever is.
Ok so maybe it's not the funniest joke ever but it looks like we can no longer joke about it anyway. Seems the Duke Nukem Forever developer joined the long list of developers to close their doors this week, putting the final nail in the Duke Nukem Forever coffin. Sad really.
But a least now we were only beaten to release by Chinese Democracy.

Eric sent me an fun link to the Duke Nukem Drama here:

    http://duke.a-13.net/

We shouldn't get too cocky though. It's still true that another developer could buy the unfinished game and finish it themselves relatively quickly under the right conditions.

    2) Cheap Fun
    ******************************************
At the risk of jinxing everything we've been kinda getting ready for a little cash injection expected shortly by thinking of ways to best spend it. fun things that would add polish to Uprising. Don't get me wrong. We have WAYYYYY learned our lesson about biting off more than we can chew and we are most certainly not spending a dime of the upcoming cash flow on any risky new feature additions. We're talking about quick and easy fun little things that involve zero development risk but maybe just a little time here and there. If there is one thing I can say about Uprising is that it will make you chuckle at times. Intentionally I hope.
We are more than aware of the fact that our first release can never hope to live up to our original bravado and hype from all those years ago so we intend to treat ourselves with a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor.

    3) Yukes Redeems
    ********************
Have you played the new UFC demo for Xbox 360 or PS3? Times sure have changed. The UFC game coupled with Legends of Wrestlemania and even the last few WWE games has made one truth impossible to ignore: Yukes is the most capable wrestling game developer on the planet today.
Sacrilegious, I know. But even if they continue to make design choices we may not always agree with you have to admit that time and time again over the last few years they have managed to pump out very playable and (dare I say) fun grappling games. The yearly franchise nature of the game business may mean they can never take enough time to give us the best they are capable of but in my opinion they've proven they can make any damn game a person can dream up.
There are still many things to criticize about their games but I believe it can all be attributed to the pressures and limitations of deadlines and budgets rather than any lack of ability on Yukes' part anymore.

So I may never rush out and buy a new wrestling game just because the Yukes name is on the box but (at least for me) the rabid Yukes hate is dead and gone.

Now THQ on the other hand...

In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.

    Thank you for your support,
    Dave Wishnowski

At the risk of being presumptuous, I can think of ONE thing that the game needs for the casual wrestling gamer to get a "full" wrestling game experience out of PWX: at least one championship belt. :D

Great idea if only we knew SOMEone who liked to design wrestling belts. Sadly, no such person exists on these boards ;)
