Welcome to Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #369

1) One Step Closer *************** We had a good week. Looks like we're going to be getting a bunch of development cash back in the next few months. Big chunk. Maybe enough to market Uprising really well! Our other side project took a leap forward this week as well. We now have the kind support of a former Alberta premiere (Canadian equivalent of a U.S. Governor) to get the job done. Everything is lining up pretty nicely.
Before I forget, I want to thank Fullmetal for posting that monster newsletter on the forum last week. Very cool of you.
2) Fire Pro Club ****************************************** Gawd, what a mess in the Fire Pro community with that hoax that was a joke but wasn't really a joke for April Fools Day but not on April Fools Day blah blah blah. I'm not going to really comment on the ones that 'masterminded' the whole thing. I don't want to kick guys when they're down and the rest of the FPC has already done plenty of kicking. Besides, I don't think there were ever any evil intentions, just a really pointless idea backed up by really sad behavior. And who am I to judge? I'm the poster boy for dumb decisions made publicly. Still, not the brightest maneuver. Yuck. Enough about it. Moving on...
So some people in the Fire Pro Community have taken it upon themselves to convince Spike to make a new Fire Pro game. Good for them. Really. It can't hurt to try and you can't believe the any rumor that Spike will never make another wrestling game either. The only people with the knowledge of Spike's future plans are the executives at Spike. They certainly aren't sharing those plans on public forums. Hell, most of Spike's employees couldn't say for certain what the future holds for Fire Pro. So write letters, sign petitions, do whatever you feel compelled to do to help Fire Pro. Don't listen to ANYONE who says you can't do it. People like to tell other people they will fail because:
1-They failed themselves. So why take advice on success from a failure? 2-They WANT you to fail because they don't want you to get the credit for succeeding.
So the next time someone who doesn't work at Spike or has never worked at a game company tries to tell you how you're going to fail, ignore them. Don't respond. Its a waste of energy. In fact, the next time you read something that sounds like this, "Waste your time...won't work....IP....market...blah blah blah...sales figures...etc." instead of replying send an email or message to someone and tell them about Fire Pro. Anyone. Because you never know who will be able to help you if you don't ask. Your time is much better spent looking for help and support. And if at the end of the day there really is never another Fire Pro, so what? At least you learned something, met some positive new people, and didn't waste a single moment of your valuable time on someone who just wants you to fail to protect their image of themselves. Take the people who are still there and still care and build from there. Screw the rest of 'em.
Count me in on any petition or letter writing campaign you have.
3) PWX XBLA NF'nL ****************** Poop. I spoke to our publishing agent yesterday and we can forget about doing anything for XBLA any time soon. He said it's a pipe dream these days. Game companies with fully completed and self funded XBLA games are having trouble getting publishers to take them for free even. He cited one game he represents that has a major sci-fi license attached, 8 player online multiplayer, fun as hell, and it's been completed for six months. Publishers still won't take it because they're too afraid to even risk the marketing costs. So a little unlicensed 'rasslin game? Not via the traditional channels anyway. At least not today.
4) Link of the Week ******************** I don't know how Eric stumbled across this but it's an incredible find for any old timers out there. It's a home video of a tour through id studios in the middle of the development of Doom! Pure nerdgasm for sure. I loved it. To see Cormack, Romero, etc. sitting around tiny monitors and loving what they do so much. Nice.
