As far as I can remember there was always plenty of discussion about this game, whether it was on the lilcube forums, on here or even on the GameFAQs page! But there now seems to be no buzz whatsoever.
There's probably a few reasons for it, I personally don't find the Newsletters as interesting as they used to be. I found it far more interesting hearing about game play mechanics than finances. I don't want to come on to the forums to discuss finances, there isn't any input I can give for that. Whereas I can try and give my own ideas for how they should tackle the rope mechanics etc. Truth be told, I seldom read the newsletters anymore. I'll scan over them for anything of interest but I rarely find something. Obviously you can't talk about this every week, but maybe let someone else write a newsletter. Another member of the team to give there thoughts? Maybe make it a fortnightly newsletter?
Another reason is the Screenshot Saturday! The fact that every week we had new pictures to talk about kept the buzz going. There isn't any reason for people to come here anymore because there isn't anything to talk about! I used to love checking the site every Sunday to see the new pics. Even if there wasn't really anything new to show off. I'd then make sure to check what other people have said about them on the forums. Something that they may have noticed that I didn't. It's not hard to take a few screen grabs of a match and upload them is it? Genuine question.
When I put down my money for this game way back when, I didn't feel like I was just paying for the game. I was paying to be part of the team. Now it feels like any other game. I don't even know who is on the team anymore...
Finally, what's happened to the WGU website? I remember the team saying a few times that they really want to make something of it, but I can't even get it to load at the moment...
no more buzz no more message board discusions no more game-specific news in the newsletter no more screens no more videos no more site updates no more fan partcipation (the team) All along with semi-broken promises of demo release and date time-frames.
all valids points.
PS. Obviously there's no "PWX SUCKZ" in here, just valid constructive criticism. PWX is losing momentum.... and worst of all (because it's absolutely been the the biggest asset and plus to PWX), it's losing interest. remember, hate isn't the opposite of love. Indifference is. All I see on the site is Not. Dead. Yet. Maybe not from the PWX internal end, but from the customers' end, my question to the PWX team is... are you sure?
Actually i never had doubted that this game will ever get released. It's just taking longer than i anticipated. Dave admitted he made mistakes along the way that could've saved him money & time. But he learned from all. Remember he is just one guy with a small team & limited amount of funds.
PWX will be released. Just be patient. I know it's not easy but it will be.
I have to agree with Action, when I go on the homepage and it hasn't been updated since Sept 19th 08 I get frustrated. "Game development isn’t always as sexy as we all dreamed it would be." isn't a reason to not update the site regularly. Not for me anyway. Like I said, I don't care if it's a screen of the same two wrestlers each week doing a different move. Just something we can talk about. I used to tell everyone who would listen about PWX a couple of years back, nowadays, well if it wasn't for the newsletter in my inbox every week I'd probably have forgotten about it.
What I'm getting at the moment is that everyone is losing the love for this project. I might be wrong, all the team might be loving it at your end but if they are we're not seeing it. So how about we throw around a few ideas? Profiles of all the team each talking about their favourite games etc. That would be a nice update. Again, perhaps letting other people take the mic (write a newsletter) and telling people what they hope to achieve from the project etc. Any trouble they're having with the game etc. I don't know who works on the animation etc but I'd love to hear from them.
I don't for one minute doubt this game will come out. I like to think I know a little about Dave as a person now, and I don't think he would let that happen.
Action has hit it right on the head. I can't remember the last meaningful update in the newsletter as it relates to the game itself (screens, new anims etc.). I would be happy with a few screens like Action said. It seems now i open the newsletter to find something about trying to save the Pavillion (I live in Calgary so I'm assuming that was what you were talking about.) or about another spin off game for a game that has yet to be released.
It just seems that this game is not going to be released till it is the "perfect game" unfortunately there will never be a "perfect game" in everyone's eyes so why not release a good game (with sliders) and let people tweak the heck out of it and move on to being able to do what you want to do with the full PWX game, because support is dwindling in the forums and the forums generally contain the people that will sell the game via word of mouth which is crucial to the games eventual success.
I'm not trading in my PWX decoder ring or anything crazy like that, but until I can see or read something tangible I really am starting to wonder why I come by the site to see if there is anything new. And perhaps the worst thing is since Ive been at home on vacation for a week I've started playing that wrestling Mpire game, and while it is umm how shall we say basic :) at least it was a game to play and he got the $20 or whatever I shelled out for it to just play a game which to be blunt is something I never would have purchased had there been another viable option.
I'm guessing there is a reason why Dave and the team haven't been saying much lately (I'm really hoping it has to do with a deal to release the game) but if you can give us an honest overview of where the game is at it would do a lot to bolster my support, after all there are only so many ring textures to make before you lose interest in that mod lol.
Sadly I agree with many of the points here. I find myself becoming less and less interested due to the big delay between announcement of uprising and the release. I mean I think it was September of 07 when it was first announced?
Profiles of each character in the game would be a decent weekly update ala what Midway did with the Mortal Kombat game a few years ago profiling the fighter and their fatality. Why not do that with each character and their finisher?
All valid suggestions and concerns. I can't say I haven't felt a lot of the same things myself. I check the board every day....at least once a day. Just to see if anyone new has signed up, and make sure nothing crazy has been going on in the discussions.
I know that things have been rough, and thankfully the worst times seem to be behind us.
I check whenever I'm online at home. The discussion on this board has dried up, but I still blame the forum itself. Cube's PHPBB forums remain the awesome-est replacement for the old ProBoards that we used to be on. Remember THOSE? I think I still have the 6 or 8 pages of move suggestions (still the most lively discussion we've had in the almost 10 years since the project started) somewhere on my hard drive.
This supposed game is Vaporware. For as long as this game has been in development you would think you could show at least a demo of a full match instead of just moves that anybody can clip together I mean look at all of the stick figure wrestling animation movies that are out on youtube. The site hasn't been updated since sept. I have been following PWX since late in 05 or early 06 and where is the game? Hell Matt Dickie has cranked out 4 wresltling games by himself although the graphics are not that good it is still fun to sim and book even though you really dont get true freedom to book as in call finishes and such. Why has every wrestling game have missed this is beyond me. I mean if when you play madden you have control over everything including create that super duper steriod induced 99 player make your own team and such. Why cant wrestling be the same? PWX has missed the mark anyway even if it does come out. Uprising will have how many wrestlers? 8! wow lots of work to only produce that. Why bother waiting for a publisher where honestly the only thing you have to do is create a myspace and facebook and such page get with a company like softwrap to protect your game and self publish the damn thing your self. But I am sure when the next month when the game is suppose to be released there will be another delay and another delay and on and on and on. If somebody bought a "reserved copy" just give them their money back and call it a day.............. Sorry to be so stiff but unfortunately it is what it is.
Genius, "Uprising" is the "prequel" to "Pro Wrestling X", and it IS finished (just mired in publishing limbo). It's there to test the waters with potential investors and gauge whether their game is actually financially viable to said investors in this WWE-dominated market (and because let's face it, the 12-year-olds are gonna whine "Where's John Cena?" first thing when this game gets released). It's not SUPPOSED to be the full-featured awesomeness promised by the crew for the big, expansion-friendly "Pro Wrestling X" with intergalactic multiplayer, create-a-backstage-toilet, 50 different variations of finger tape, and all those other crazy features Dave and the crew promised to the die-hard fans.
But right about now, DVBranton DOES have a point in that, in 2009, there's no longer any viable non-financial excuse to delay releasing a FINISHED game (Uprising). What better way to start off 2009 than with the PWX faithful gamma-testing the game to pick it apart for improvements and letters of support?
No Create-a-backstage-toilet?!?!?!!?? damn I'm out.
And if this is vaporware then Dave has done the most dedicated job of producing it the world has ever seen.
But if the game is done then it is getting to the time to either fish or cut bait. (I really wanted to use the toilet one but I'll save that for Create-a-potty)
No John Cena!?!?!?!?!?! Oh man my wife is gonna be pissed! lol
Damn in the last 2 months I've bought the Wrestling Mpire and rented Smackdown vs Raw 2009 haven't I suffered enough? btw SvR 2009 wasn't that bad the road to wrestlemania story lines were kinda slick. Yes the game play was weak but not as bad as some past iterations of the game. single player career mode was garbage though :(
Ok c'mon no intergalactic multi player?!?!?!?! I know a couple Martians that really needed to taste a sharpshooter dammit!
Hook us up Dave. I don't want to have to go to the top of the Calgary Tower with a megaphone to call you out! (mainly because thats really high and scary ;) )
I'm still crossing my fingers on 50 different kinds of finger tape though.
Prequel, Sequel WTF ever bottom line is if you want to "test" the market this could have and should have been out in the market already. I am a huge fan of fire pro I have Svr 09 and it sucks. I prefer to create my own characters so why in the hell do I have to play through career mode 30 times or wait for some dumb patch that should have been included in the original shipping?
To be honest I would prefer just to have an game where you can just create your own characters from the start with just templates and let me do what I want to in the game as I have said before if this game is done with why don't we have a video (at least) just showing a match. If this is to test the market then why isn't it available? If and when if ever it is released I will buy it for sure but until I am proven wrong other wise it is vaporware to me . I am not trying to blast the creators of anything like that but we are in 2009 and this game has been in production for how long? That is why the BUZZ is dead people get tired of hearing one thing and then another delay here and delay there before you know it a game that is suppose to test the market is now a year and a half behind schedual.
I think a full match is well deserved by now, or at least a montage with the beginning of the match shown and the pinfall or submission (this reminds me, do the wrestlers make the tap out motion when they submit in Uprising? Would be a nice touch instead of just the word SUBMISSION appearing).
I am getting really tired of waiting. I donated to the project though so I want to stick through it. Hopefully Dave can respond to this thread with some actual news or dates. It is very frustrating when only 3 SSS have been posted in the last year with a total of 4 news postings (including the SSS).
I've only been following this project for about 18 months, but I certainly feel everyone's cause for frustration, especially those who have put money into it. I really hope that this game comes into fruition and agree with most of the things said in this thread. Even a few new screen shots would be nice!
After watching and reading newsletters, waiting with baited breath for photos, videos, news... anything... for several years - from a different country, Australia, where all the Canada references made fly over my head - I have to say, I kind-heartedly agree with this thread.
I was so stoked when I found out about PWX, and what it promised, and was sad when the communication pulse started to weaken. Then when I began to accept it and feel indifference creep in, that was even sadder. Please do reignite the fire in our idealistic, reach-for-the-stars, hard-to-satisfy wrestling fan hearts. Photos, videos, news on the game itself, descriptions of moves, plans you have for the next game - what features are you hoping for? Anything. I just want to see a movement in the pulse of communication again.
Agreed. I just want some sort of update, response, anything from Dave. I mean, if this forum represents the more loyal and interested fans, now who are started to wane and show dissatisfaction, what is the state of the on-lookers and less so loyals? Poor updates and poor news will lead to poor sales and a lost fan base.
I've honestly been afraid to check the forums. I know we've lost precious momentum. I know it sucks. I'm doing everything I can along with the crew to get it done. We've certainly come to realize that we can't wait until it's prefect but we have to at least make sure it's acceptable. Believe me, there are times when I want to cry a river about everything we've been through over the last year since announcing Uprising but what good would it do? I think the best course of action is just that; action. The time will come for us to lift the veil and disclose what went on behind the scenes to cause this speed bump but now isn't the time. I need to remain positive and motivated. Time spent complaining won't help me get 'er done.
That being said, you're all right, it's not bad news that hurts us, it's no news at all. So while I may be genuinely excited about recent developments and how they will help PWX I do recognize that more time needs to be spent just communicating.
It's been kind of rough in ways I haven't shared yet. Maybe I should, I don't know. I guess I just don't feel comfortable having people pity me for any reason. I'm doing everything I can behind the scenes but I do promise to be a little less vague and share more content in the future.
Thanks for caring enough to share your concerns with me. Action937 is right. It's when you stop caring that we need to worry.
I've been capping gameplay video for a while now. I'll post some on Youtube as soon as I can. It's really more of a perfectionist thing. I keep seeing the little flaws and hesitate to post videos thinking I'll wait until the flaws are fixed. I know I know, I have to get over it!
again, "I see some things I don't like about that footage. such as..."
is better than
"meh, I've waited so long for videos, pics, coverage, a demo... now it's too late. Upload coverage, don't upload coverage, I don't care either way anymore."
get over it :) I shudder when I watch old videos of pre-torque HBW.
True enough. Speaking of shudder you should see some of the footage from the PWX prototype done in Genesis 3D. The character models wouldn't export properly and the hip bones stuck out an extra six inches like badly constructed robots.
I picked up Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, and then I suddenly remembered that I had paid for this game.
I guess the thing is I am so used to buying a game and getting something relatively quickly. I bought PWX in 2007 (December) with the idea that I would get a demo in a month. Well, that's long since been in the past, but what is stopping from just a two wrestler demo so we can see if we even want this game anymore.
I share your frustration, boy do I ever. Thats we'll be releasing gameplay video in the coming weeks and showing people exactly what Uprising looks and plays like. We're working on a deal to have Uprising sponsored and thats one of the reasons we're holding off on a release. In the meantime, we can add a little polish while we wait which is always a good thing.
i understand your need for a sponsor but holding off any info waiting for one is a bad idea and isolating your already declining fan base. its now 3 months on from your post on videos being released any update?
We actually did upload a new video the very next day after after that post. The gameplay video found here:

We're going be be rolling out new updates with our new website makeover as well. I'd say in the next few weeks but that's not a hard promise, just my best estimate.
