Welcome to Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #351

All you have to do is hang on.

Somehow, call it faith or voodoo or a mental disorder, I knew that Alberta was the
right place to go to recently. I didn't know why exactly but I knew. Sure, there
was the obvious Hart and Stampede presence in Alberta but even then I didn't
know exactly how or why that might ever connect to PWX or if it ever would. At any
rate, I knew it wasn't a bad thing to go to Alberta and that PWX would be better off
    because of it, not worse.

So here's how the big fat hand of fate tossed me around this week. I'm a believer:

I was talking to someone a few months ago who used to wrestle in Alberta. He made
an offhanded comment that a venue he used to perform in might get torn down soon. I
thought that was a terrible thing to have happen but put it to the back of my mind
until a few days ago. I was sitting next to a phone and I thought that since I was in Alberta
I'd give the venue a call to see if it was true. I got the receptionist in the
administration office on the phone and told her what I had heard and asked if it was
true. She hadn't heard of it but put me on hold to ask someone who might know. When
she came back on the line the next thing she said made me cringe,

"Yes it's true. It's scheduled for demolition in early 2009."

    No way.

I couldn't believe it. The place should be designated as a frickin' heritage
site in my opinion. So I started calling around to everyone and every group,
agency, and company I thought might be able to help preserve the building in any
way, shape, or form. In the process of panicked calls over just the last few days
I've been fortunate to speak with people at just about every level of government
and they all agree that something should be done. That "something" that I proposed
is an architecturally accurate 3D modeling of the the building's interior. It's been
done before but no one has shockingly proposed such a thing in the case of this building.
Our crew can do it and even promote the venue as a playable aspect of PWX down the
road. But the great thing about this is how it's exploded over just a few days.
What started out as a simple 3D preservation project has ballooned into something
potentially much much bigger for us and PWX.

I was also lucky enough to speak a few times with the head of the new media program
at the university here about this and he had to laugh.

"You realize," he said, "that in doing this one seemingly small thing you will
end up getting the support and attention of just about everyone and anyone you
would ever need to build a pro wrestling game company here."

    Just f'n hang on, man.

In the meantime and in-between time, that's it. Another edition of Wrestling Gamers
    United.

    Thank you for your support,

This news demonstrates the extent to which PWX concerns itself with pro-wrestling itself and not just video gaming. Here's hoping the gameplay mechanics acknowledge this.

Wow that's some motivation from the head of the new media program

Thank you. I guess you're right although I never really considered it unusual to be a pro wrestling supporter in general. But when you hear a landmark is about to be destroyed how could a wrestling fan just stand by and do nothing?

Yeah! He makes a good point that is already proving to be true. This seemingly small side project is already getting us in front of people we otherwise would have a tough time contacting.
