Firstly,id like to start off by saying hello to everyone, its my 1st post on this site (apart from the introduce myself post) and it wont be my last. I saw this website a while back and thought it was a cool idea that a games develiper would not only listen to what its fans opinions are but create (well try and create) an entire game on what those opinions are so from now on if i think of any ideas that id like to see in a wrestling game ill be posting them and ill let others know what i think of their ideas as well.
Anyway here are a few things that I think would be good/original in a wrestling:
* Ending a Feud Match: This is a type of match that i think should be in the career/story mode of the game. If my wrestler has an ongoing rivalry with wrestler B for a few months then it could be a nice feature to make our 1 on 1 match feel a little bit more special then just a regular match like most others. Add more chants from the crowd and get them more involved then a regular matchup, make the opponent a little harder to beat, lots of near falls,reversals/kick-outs of finishers ect. it might not make the match play out any differant at the end but it could give the player a big match 'feel' about it.If HBK and Flair had a 1 on 1 on raw 3 years ago it mite feel like a regular match but at wrestlemania the same match would have made the veiwer feel a lot differant while watching. wrestling games should be no differant.
*The Crowds in Attendants: In lots of wrestling and boxing games you can have matches in all sorts of arenas. A hall with about 100 fans,an arena that fits 2000 fans, that fits 20,000 fans ect. so why in these games do 100 fans in a hall cheer just as loud for their fav wrestler then an arena with 20,000 fans,it makes no sense.Wrestlemania fans are more loud then the fans at Raw,Raw fans are more loud then the fans at your tiny unknown local indy shows and so on. If your planning on putting a few differant promotions in the game then the crowds for each promotion should be differant then the others.Compare WWE fans to ROH or New Japan fans, know what I mean...
*Wrestlers Bios: Since none of the wrestlers are real in the game you should give bios telling gamers how long these guys have wrestled,if they are main eventers, their past rivalrys, what titles they have ect. it might make gamers forget that the guys they are wrestling aren't actually real.
*Injurys: They've never really felt real in any wrestling game.If im in career mode and my guy gets a bad injury then it should skip a few months til im back to 100% making me fall down in the rankings for a title shot. Also if my leg is injured and i get put in an ankle lock i should be able to choose whether to tap out or not. Why? picture this situation: a match for the no. 1contender spot. iv recently came back from a leg injury and my leg aint as strong as it used to be and im in an ankle lock.do I risk futher injury because theres a chance i might get to the ropes, get up and beat this guy but id have to enter into my title match with a bad injury and big disadvantage or do I just tap and live to fight another day and reduce my injury risk? each body part should be marked from 0% to 100% on a fatigue meter in career mode. e.g. My leg starts off at 100% and if i get injured it will reduce in percentage,if my leg reaches 0% on the fatigue meter then my career is over - i guess my wrestler shouldnt have taken as much risks.
*A 2 players career mode: should be in this game!!! (and I dont mean a tag career mode) i want to be able to beat my friend in a PPV main event for his title.. also a career mode that doesent end in 1 game year, even if it means that some storylines will repeat with differant charecters its still better then the unbeleivebly repititive story mode they've done for the last few smackdowns imo (although i think they done something similar in the 1st smackdown)....basically a career mode differant to other games in the market
*Star Ratings: since its so popular with wrestling fans on the net why not have it in the game, everyone who had interest in this game early on is an internet wrestling fan anyway. Pick a few differant things that should be in a match and if all of these are done perfectly its a 5 star match. Dont give out 5 stars easyily though - you know what the internet wrestling fans are like. plus in career mode it would be nice to see an end of the year awards with best wrestler, most improved, best tag, moty. same thing pretty much that happens in the real world.
Anyway thats all the effort im wiling to put in for 1 post, let me know what you think of these ideas...and sorry for such a long 1st post..
I especially think Ending A Fued Match has a lot of across-the-board potential... if you select two main-eventers in a big Wrestlemania-or-PPV arena (*tangent thought; if creating arenas/downloading arena patches is in, you should be able to select if the arena is a little indie arena, a TV taping arena, a PPV arena or a 'grandaddy' arena such as 'Mania) and the calibre of both the opponents and the arena will equal a crowd that responds appropriately loud/quieter, rowdier, etc. I think that first idea of yours would be brilliant throughout the game, not just career mode.
Great first post! If this is any indication of the type of input you'll be offering then I'd like to thank you on behalf of the entire crew for sharing your thoughts with us.
We agree that crowds are important. So important in fact that we don't even have one in the first game. The reason being that I want to do exactly the types of things you mentioned. I don't just want another mob of randomly moving spectators. I want a crowd to have personality based on venue size and region. Audio is also a big part of that. The vibe of a small indy show has never properly been captured and I want to do that. Not just the usual crowd noise audio loops with a few pops here and there.
Wrestler bios, check. We'll be doing that for Uprising.
Injuries. I agree. Definitely something we'll be pursuing when we develop the career mode.
A 2 player career mode with randomly generated non-linear story branches is a wet dream. We're a long way from developing something like that though.
We've been discussing a ratings system and while it's easily developed, who get's to decide how matches are ranked? One man's five star match is another man's sleeping pill.
Thanks again for the post. Never feel the need to apologize for sharing your ideas in depth. That's kinda why we started this ;-)

That is a fair point but one of the things I love about King of Colosseum is getting 100% crowd rating, it's like actual if you play it that way, the win-lose doesn't matter, the overall match is what matters. As for it being a 'matter of opinion' KOC2 gets round that by having different types of fans - granted, I'm not sure of the difference and I always use the NOAH crowd, but if you could programme an indy crowd, a technical crowd, a big event crowd...or something.
But being able to put on good matches and being rewarded for it'd be nice (by reward I mean seeing 5 lovely stars).
Thought I'd hijack this thread with my own ideas rather than starting a new one.
One thing that I'd really like to see, which I think has been missing from virtually all wrestling games I've played since the AKi era, is fully flexible match rules. One thing I loved about No Mercy/VPW2 was the feeling of control and flexibilty you had. Sure, it didn't have half the gimmick matches that SvR has, but the fact that you could tinker with the KO/Blood/No DQ/Falls-count0anywhere settings meant that you could have most match types through just the regular modes. I've enjoyed plenty of four way first blood matches, triple threat last man standing matches etc. this way. I think good customization of the match rules would be a relatively simple thing to integerate, but would be something that could add hours of play onto the game.
