I read a Q and A about TNA Impact and alot of stuff people were asking for is not in the game such as Online tag matches create a belt and alot more. Basically what the developer responding the people's posts kept saying was that they built the game from the ground up and that two years was not enough time to include everything they wanted. He also promised that the next game will be much better. What do you guys think about what's been left out and will it keep you from buying the game? The Q&A is on ign.com
I agree with Midway to a point here. Two years is not a lot of time and I'm sure they didn't want a bunch of half finished or buggy features to ship with the first TNA game. But even with that being said there still seems to be a bit of wonkiness here...
I looked into if the PS2 and Wii will have CAW and neither system will have it. Instead the PS2 and Wii wrestlers will have "combos" that the Xbox 360 and PS3 will not. As I said before the guy anwsering the questions just kept saying "not in this version" or "we ran out of time". I can kinda understand why the game is missing so much because they are making a game from the ground up on multiple systems. But I think developers or marketers need to rethink the way sports game in general are sold. As a long time Madden fan their were a couple of years I forking over 50 or 60 dollars for bascilly a roster upate or a gimmick feature like " QB vision" that didn't work like it should. Maybe if I had to buy a new football or wrestling game every other year and use DLC for roster updates or features that would be better than 60 bucks a year. What do you guys think?
I've read it, I applaud them for being honest at least, unlike most game devs that overhype their games that end up being bad. I'm buying the game regardless and I'll judge it based on what Midway wanted to accomplish. "The Gameplay"
As long as it's playable, I'm happy with what I get.
I'm gonna get the game for the PS2 from a friend, so I will try it. From the looks of it I was wrong about it being a failure, thank God... But I'm still stoked about the PWX ring - I still remember it. That must have been the best arena in any game at all...
Did anyone else read it and think 'these are almost exactly the questions and answers PWX are going to have to get and give on its release'?
Why are there so few features? We wanted to concentrate on gameplay.
etc.
To be honest the only thing I'm a bit gutted about is the 5 CAW slots and the lack of a demo, I like to play before I pay these days, especially at PS3 prices.
I'm looking forward to it. If the gameplay is good they can add all the other stuff next year. The mountains of BS options on WWE games don't make them good, and the lack of a Hell in a Cell, Deathmatches or Royal Rumbles doesn't make King of Colosseum 2 shit. Having said that, the game could still suck - but let's be optimistic, we know WWE's next effort will be tosh.
I like to play demos, but I'll just let a friend buy it and see how it plays. My friends got like £250 worth of GameStation money after trading in a PS3 he got free with his new mobile phone.
Not releasing a demo is just dumb no matter what. Demos sell games to uneasy consumers. After wrestling fans get burned so many times I'm pretty sure that I know for myself, I won't buy another wrestling game without playing it first, especially a totally new series. With the Smackdown series you know what to expect, maybe a few tweaks here and there, but even then, it is nice that they release demos.
While I understand constraints due to time and technology, 5 edit slots is just a joke. This either means that the CAW is incredibly shallow and they are embarrassed by it, or that they came upon some hardware limitations. If they came upon hardware limitations I think it falls on their shoulders for not figuring out how to save properly or even how to make the most out of the system memory. It would be a shame if there was a very strong edit system and only 5 slots.
Regardless, I don't see myself as ever playing this game, and I don't see it as selling very well. As much as I'd love to have endless Rhyno vs. Black Reign 6-sides of Steel Reverse Battle Royales with weapons hanging from a retractable ceiling, I'm good.
From the reviews I've now read it sounds like an alright game, and one that i'd like to play, but isnt what i want from a wrestling game and isnt something i'll buy.
I'm curious as to WHY it sucks. You got a team that can obviously make a hand-to-hand combat game and guys like AJ and Joe who clearly can offer insight to the developer. Once again it sounds like a game forced to release before it's finished. One shared taunt? Almost fully shared movesets? HUH?
well for a game that supposedly prides itself on gameplay this game just plain fails. The control scheme sucks ass . NO ONE WANTS TO HOLD A SHOULDER BUTTON OR TRIGGER TO RUN!!!!! y should not be a grapple button. The hold l1 strong modifier sucks horribly. Why would u need a modifier button? Just hold for strong attack how hard is that? caw is just horrible period. Movelists are almost as bad as smackdown vs raw movelist are. Basic moves are missing, everyone does a frontflip neckbreaker instead of a regular one, etc. running grapples are done from ready position like the headscissor to russian legsweep. It has alot of good ideas all executed badly. in other words its what u should expect from an american wrestling game. Samoa joe does not have a muscle buster from the corner or a kokhina clutch wtf!!!!! and the submission system fails. no minigames in wrestling dammit!!!!!!!!! ok im srry enough venting but thats what i hate the most
Playing the game...not bad can see potential and probably will have some fun, but 2.5 years? Reagardless of what Midway says, this game had to be impacted by the closing of one of their facilities.
On the plus side, the controls are very responsive and the wrestlers move well and respond on a dime. Yes you can seemingly reverse everything, even from rolling in the ring and countering moves in mid air. Additionally, you have some cool moves outside of the ring such as holding your opponent by his legs and flinging him into the guardrail. They also seemingly got the springboad moves right.
Downsides are moves, especially reversals being done by wrestlers who don't do them. Seems like that this could (might) be addressed with promised DLC.
Not so sure if the AI is dumb or if it's the logic behind the scenes based on the situtation. Example, in tag team matches sometimes your partner breaks up pins with some consistency and others times no dice.
There really is no excuse for not having rope breaks in the game or countouts. While I typically turn off countouts, ropebreaks are just part of wrestling as whole.
The CAW (at least in story mode) seems to be okay, albeit similar to ASPW3 as you have a very limited moveset as you begin. You start out as a pretty generic "jobber to the stars" trying to get a win.
In the end I cannot help but feel for TNA, they have taken a huge gamble and I don't think this iteration of the game will pay off for them as well as it could have. As a wrestling gamer and fan and viewer of their product, I gave them a chance, I don't think the typical WWE fanboy or majority of their one million viewers will do the same.
I'm not sorry I made the purchase because 1) I think it's "okay" and may grow on me more as I explore its possibilities and 2) I collect wrestling video games though there are quite a few WCW and WWF/E titles that I have declined.
One thing I forgot to mention above is that the logic of this and any wrestling game should allow you to build a match and disallow the pulling off of strong moves right away. Midway has stated that its intent is to make the Impact series a simulation and not arcady. If they are sincere about doing this then they must look to, play and dissect the excellent and/or successful titles that have come from Japan: Giant Gram 2000, VPW2, KOC, ASPW3 and of course FPW.
u can reverse everything, even reversals. but its all the same animations by every wrestler. every wrestler can springboard ddt u and every finisher is a front grapple move. plus the controls are so scattered that it just sucks ass. dont even pirate this people. Its like svr 08 not worth the disc its printed on
Let`s just say they had a great idea but there were just not enough moves to impress me but the 2 biggest disappoinments for me is no double team moves or tag finishers and the other biggest disappointments are no top rope hurracurrana or super-plex and you gotta beware of a wrestling game that doesn`t have no top rope hurracurranas or a super-plex.
OK, so this dude from FPC posted his review of it, and it just sounds so bad. This is a good read if you are considering the game and want to hear from an actual wrestling gamer who is borderline obsessive (he is trying to make his own game now, that kind of obsessive), here you go.

Yes the moves, reversals, and caw are limited. Yes the AI is mudhole stomp happy.
Yes it's, dare I say it since it offends people apparently . "Arcadey"
and yes it has some technical issues.
But this is the most fun I've had playing a wrestling game, I had a awesome 30 minute 4 way match and this is defidnately a multiplayer game.
The only thing I really dislike is the stun/kickout meter, wiggling analog sticks to recover/ kickout= fail. Not being able to counter finishers is a downer also.
Is TNA the greatest wrestling game evar! No.
Is TNA Impact a bad game, no.
Is it fun dropkicking Tomko's arse over the top rope with Eric Young, yes!
Dude no offense but people like you are the reason we suffer from shitty game syndrome. That game was not by any means a "good game". Its god awful, not even worth a download. i've had demos given to me for free that have more replay value. I don't want to hear the its their first game excuse. They had a multi million dollar budget for this turd they call software. Now we here that TNA 2 is on the way, lmao. more like TNA version 1.1. This game was a demo with a full roster thats it. Sonnybone was very accurate in his description of this massacre put to plastic. It plain sucks. Did they even beta test this monstrosity? How does "this game sucks" not get mentioned in quality control? Samoa Joe, The freaking champion of the damn company doesn't even have his moves!!! No muscle buster from the corner, no island drop, no Kokhina clutch!!!!! WTF is up with that? UGGGHHHHHH...... I hate this game. Sorry I comented 3 times but it really is that bad. Midway should send wrestling fans an apology letter.
I bought the game and I see the fun in it but sadly I also see the limitations of the game. The game does kinda seem like a demo with the limited movesets and compared to smackdown v.s. raw 2009 a much smaller roster. I mainly bought it to support wrestling games. Another reason I bought it was because it reminds me of WCW/NWO era wrestling mainly with the looks, moves and sounds. What mainly disappointed me as I have mentioned before was the lack of top rope turnbuckle moves especially the absence of the superplex and hurracurrana. The gameplay is great, although a few things could probably be fixed such with the stun/kickout meter, wiggling analog sticks to recover/ kickout= fail that "MYNAMEISED" mentioned. Do I regret buying the game? No. Had I wished for more moves in the game? Yes. But again as a wrestling and wrestling game fan I am happy to support wrestling games in any way I can in hopes of future improvment(s).
Well. I've had the game for a few days now. The various downsides have been repeated ad nasueam, so suffice it to say that I agree with the complaints and I am happy I did not purchase the game myself.
I don't understand the limited movesets. It would seem me with all of my painfully aquired experience that a studio with their resources should have been able to spam this game with tons of moves.
Dave I believe its called being fucking lazy and not caring about the product. 2 years might not be a lot of time to make a game for an average game company, but these guys have a huge team endless resources and a HUGE budget. There's no excuse for that. I guess american wrestling fans will just have to keep suffering and hope spike makes more games and get them ported.
That is what is most important to me.. it flows well, it has all the high-flying and springboard action, you can get a nice fluent match happening. Sure, there aren't many moves and you can't Create-A-Bootlace, but.. it's f*cking fun. That trumps all of Smackdown's bells, whistles and lazy, chore-to-use gameplay, for mine.
I actually prefer Impact gameplay to Smackdown on the surface. If I have to pause the game a dozen times in one match to read the manual then I'm not having fun. Depth does not equal over complicating simple actions.
I think some of you who criticize TNA Imapact the game should actually play it before you decide to judge it for yourselves because deep down it`s not really a bad game it is actually quite fun but not really full of moves, match types or features but if you are looking for a new wrestling game experience as basic of a game as it is I would still suggest trying it out.
Yeah, if you take Impact for what it is you can have some fun. It's just a game and certainly not worth raging over. I think what most people are upset with is the bait and switch. What we got was definitely not what we were told to expect and it sure isn't worth $60 to me. It's not the first time we've been through this and I'm sure it won't be the last.
Suddenly the Legends of Wrestling development team aren't looking so evil anymore...
I have always wanted to try RR for the PS2, but I have always been afraid of mom walking in while I was playing with two barely dressed women (wow, too bad it's just a console). Plus there is no way in cold hell I can get this game legally from anywhere...
