1) Free at last! ********************************
Sweet merciful crap I feel relieved. This morning we finally signed off on the completion of PWX Uprising with one of our main investors. You might remember last week I was just about to sign the agreement after I sent the newsletter. It didn't happen. I was expecting it to happen the following Monday then. Still didn't happen. Ok now I was getting worried so I asked what the problem was. My jaw just about dropped as I read the email:
"The person who does the final sign-off on the final cost report has recommended that your file needs to be reviewed by our compliance department. I’m sorry for this unexpected delay."
What? Why?! What the hell is a compliance department and why are we just hearing about this now? How much bloody longer is this going to take?
So I made some panicked phone calls to try and get to the bottom of it. I heard all sorts of horror stories from other companies like how the compliance department is basically going to audit the audit and it could take a month or more. DAMMIT! So I called the senior auditor at the head office in Montreal to get some answers. She was on vacation, big surprise. Thankfully someone from the compliance department returned my call on Tuesday afternoon and told me not to worry. They were asked to review the final cost report and they would have it sent back to the Vancouver office by later this week. They would call me if there were any questions or problems with the cost report and audit otherwise I wouldn't hear anything until the process was finalized and our final payment would be released. So for the last few days I just held my breath and had a small heart attack every time the phone rang. But it does beg the question, why do I have to incur the cost of a full audit ($10k) if they're just going to basically do their own audit anyway?
But it got really ugly before I got the final agreement signed today. It's a story I really can't go into right now but it got to the point where not only was my lawyer making calls but even a Member of Parliament got involved to get things moving. In Canada a Member of Parliament (MP) is roughly the equivalent of a US Senator. You probably don't want to be on their bad side. Crazy. Surreal. It could have gotten a lot worse before it got better.
But thankfully it seems we're at the end of an era and now we can move forward. This whole situation has done some pretty serious damage to project in terms of stalling progress in the last few months but it's nothing we can't recover from very shortly.
Thanks for hanging in there! Business is about to pick up...
2) Link of the Week ********************
If there has been person who can rightfully be called a hero for saving PWX and this company it's our lawyer. One day I'll be able to tell you all about it but believe me when I say this man pulled the whole damn project out of the fire and saved it from an early death. He happens to be involved with a video game law blog that I think some of you would find interesting:

Chris, if you're reading this, I owe you. We all do.
3) Question of the Week ************************
As we learn more about the upcoming TNA game the question has been raised, "What makes for a better wrestling game, a smaller roster with deep and varied move sets or a larger roster with less move variety?"
