1) Crowded House **********************************
We're getting some company over at the studio in the next month or so. The people responsible for a lot of the audio in Uprising have been invited to move in and make use of some of the space we have that was never being used. It's going to be nice to have a full audio production studio under the same roof now. Plus, they do a lot of their work late at night so I'll feel more comfortable knowing the studio won't be empty very often. We have a slight problem in our neighborhood with junkies and break ins and the less the studio is left unmanned the better.
I'm looking forward to having these guys around but maybe that's just because one of them presented me with a ticket to Judas Priest today, the key to my metal heart ;-)
2) Goodnight, boy ******************
You may remember seeing a big black dog in some of the pics taken at the studio. His name was Clive and he was my buddy for the last thirteen years. Well, I took Clive to the vet this week thinking he had a bit of an infection and it turned out he had an inoperable tumor that was killing him fast. Poor guy was in a lot of pain and going downhill fast. The vet recommended we end his suffering and I reluctantly agreed. I'll miss my boy. All he ever wanted to do was be with me. I was in shock for a good while. One minute I'm carrying him into the vet thinking I'll just be grabbing some antibiotics and 30 minutes later I'm petting his head while he drifted away. He was in so much pain and it was the humane thing to do. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.
Good boy.
3) Ring vs. Cage *****************
Earlier today I got another call from the television broadcaster that we're planning this other wrestling game with. They're pushing very hard to do a cage fighting game. So much so that its starting to make me question their commitment to wrestling in general. Not that I can blame them from a purely business standpoint. Cage fighting and MMA in general is hot right now and it's not proving to be the quickly dying fad some had predicted. I enjoy the first UFC game on Dreamcast and have and MMA match in Fire Pro at least a few times a week so I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy taking a crack at developing such a game myself. I just want everyone to know that my heart lies in wrestling and that's what we'll always do best and have the most love for. But I'm running a business here and a lot of my money is at stake so if someone cuts me a cheque to develop a cage fighting game I won't be turning it down.
4) Uprising marketing **********************
Finally today we had some progress on the marketing of Uprising. One of our largest investors sent formal acknowledgment that they are reviewing their marketing support for Uprising and we'll know shortly if they will fund it or not. They've already got a ton of money in the project so it would seem rather odd for them to decide not to market it now that it's ready. But stranger things have happened. Wish us luck!
5) New "Legends" game ***********************
THQ and JAKKS Pacific recently surprised us with the announcement of a new game coming in March 2009 to be titled WWE Legends of Wrestlemania. Not much news has been released outside of the official announcement:
Curiously missing from the press release is any mention of Yukes being involved in the project. Could this be the first step towards a new developer taking over the WWE series or should we be expecting just another Smackdown vs. Raw game with a roster of Legends? In case of the former, I'd still be a happy guy if all I got was a game with the roster from Showdown: Legends of Wrestling with the gameplay of Smackdown vs. Raw. Either way, this is the first wrestling game that has really piqued my interest in a good long time.
I'm not that good at condoling people, but I think most people would have done the same thing as you.
Not that I'm too fussed about MMA content, WGU producing a cage fighting game would require some solid chain wrestling code. That could go on to be beneficial for PWX.
When I was about 4, I got attacked by a dog, but for the life of me, I could never see how anyone could harm one and held no ill-will towards them.
Having lost two pets, one cat we euthanized due to a tumor and the other cat, my undeniable favorite, survived an owl attack, a brain tumor, only to be found dead outside after 13 years, which the vet said was a long time for an outdoor cat, I know the pain of losing a pet. Sure, it sounds stupid how much you miss an animal, but when you have a pet that's been around for 13 years, it's heartbreaking to realize they are gone for good. I was 4 or 5 when I got my cat, and then to realize he was gone made the house so much emptier. Best of luck overcoming your lost. For those who aren't pet-owners, it's impossible to explain the bond.
Best of luck, man, and thanks for still updating despite the loss.
On a lighter note, I think the idea of cage fighting is great for PWX. I am still thinking of my microtransaction topic (which I'll bump soon to relate to this), but this will be a great addition when caged matches hit PWX.
