I'm not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but I think there is a grossly overlooked and much desired feature missing from both the WWE and TNA video games that would really help set PWX apart from the pack:
INSTANT REPLAY
WWE, and assumedly TNA, have the little 2 or 3 second clips after a finisher or big move is done, but neither of these games allow for a true free-camera instant replay like most sports games. A number of times in the SvR games, and even in No Mercy, I've hit a really cool move or there's been a cool chain of moves and I have no way to go back and appreciate it. Something as relatively simple as Madden's replay engine that allows you to lock onto one of the players or have a free roaming camera, zoom, and slow mo would really add a lot to the game. Having the ability to save replays would also add a lot of replayability to the game because people will definitely create their own highlight reels and splice together saved replays.
I remember in my youth (not that long ago) I used to play NHLPA93 and me and my brother would have some crazy cool plays and relieve them for a long time. In Nhl 98 on PC we would save our sick goals. I also love the feature in MLB games because some double plays are worth saving.
that is a great idea. the saved replays of of some matches would be really cool for online leagues, or simulation leagues like ogfpd for firepro. It would be a really great feature and probably not that hard to implement
The good news is we have the capability thanks in part to the client/server code we built around. But we haven't even come close to designing the interface for such a feature.
I'd be using this feature for making sig banners and wallpapers, oh and having a representation of my character for eFeds. That's the only reason I'd like this feature. So I can get good snapshots.
I'm glad to see my idea's gotten some positive response and people are running with it, but I'm trying to be completely realistic about this (hence the "A modest suggestion" subject line). I kinda thought people would hear the instant replay idea and then add on, "Yeah! It should be shareable online for efeds/ you should be able to add music and effects/ you should be able to import them for entrance videos / make em part of the career mode/ etc."
While all those suggestions are definitely great ideas for down the road, I'm saying that, from my limited game programming experience, the very basic replay system (pause, play, slow mo, zoom, move the camera around, save, period) seems like something that could be added relatively quickly. I know that the book is probably closed on Uprising until it's in our hands, but by the time the full PWX game comes out, this could be a highly-polished feature. I definitely think the sharing, editing, and exporting stuff is a great idea for down the road, but the barebones replay system seems like something that could be done now. And as far as interface, I mean, I would just follow the Madden replay model and use the buttons on the 360 controller for the same functions they do.
Our plans for the feature would allow you to save and replay an entire match from within the game engine and going so far as to allow you to edit camera angles, add commentary, etc. But it's a long long way off as I'm still not even close to satisfied with the core gameplay. I realize features like this are exciting to dream about and the temptation to spend resources on them is great but there needs to be an acceptable level of gameplay present before we can justify the feature creep.
What I'm excited about relates to replay, actually. What makes our replay ultimately possible is the online multiplayer code. All info during a match has to be broken down and saved so that it can be transmitted between players for online matches. This same info can also be played back at any time to result in an instant replay feature. However, even cooler is the ability to transmit this info to anyone online, resulting in the possibility of a real-time online spectator mode. And then what if we gave online spectators the ability to 'cheer' or 'boo' during an online mode? The result could be a true audience rating system. Food for thought!

Awesome. I never imagined all this stuff coming. All i wanted was a wrestling game with good gameplay, a good caw & a few matches. Simple as that!
But now we got all these fine touches that multiply the excitement times 1000.
Eeep! Don't get too excited yet, guys! We're just talking about future possibilities here. Online spectator mode is likely a few years into the future.
Same here. But I might be motivated to watch if the match included either a little punk I wanted to see lose or someone I liked and wanted to win. Gee...kinda like real wrestling! At least knowing people are watching would make the match mean something to the participants.
I disagree. I think it would be fun. Then again, I'm in my 30's. Which means I grew up in the age of street fighter and mortal kombat. every friday, you'd go to the arcade where tons of kids would be crowded around the machines watching the matches. You'd put your quarter on the machine to "get in line". You'd sit there and watch until your quarter came up and it was your turn. Winner stayed and faced a new challenger. It was a great time.
Implementing something like this would be great fun for singles matches. Especially if you were part of the crowd and could actually interact with cheers and boos. It could even be like a "gauntlet" type match.
On a gauntlet level I almost agree with you. I share the same Mortal Kombat memories as you. 'Who won? SUB ZERO WON!!!!"
We had a potential partner visit the studio about a year ago and his company wanted us to let users create audience icons that could interfere in matches. Somewhere here is a good idea...
