Uhh, as much as I hate the Smackdown vs Raw series, I think Create-A-Finisher could be a great selling point for ANY wrestling game. Honestly, why it wasn't in sooner, is a travesty, but it's in now. If PWX wants to even touch the wrestling world, they need to do it, and need to do it better.
Honestly, I see SvR and TNA as two things impeding PWX from greatness. If the game can hold a candle to those two, then we're stuck with them until someone tries again. However, if it happens that PWX can stand on it's own and even best those two games, then we will see many more companies step-up and try their hand at the wrestling market. I am no fan of the shows, but the games really are a blast to play because I can recreate that older feel I had when I was a kid.
The hard part for PWX is to not only have equal features, but to 1 up and add a feature that's not available in those games. The fact that it's for the PC and most likely will be mod friendly is already a selling point. If PWX was to counter the Create-A-Finisher idea would be to just make a create-a-move feature. Not just a finisher, but general moves. Have a buffet of animations that fans can mix and match.
I like the create a MOVE idea, so if you want to make it a momentum move u can, and if you decide to make it your finisher all the power to ya! This is what I don't like about the communist SVR series, they make u do what they want u too and been doing it for years. How many years ago have you wrote to them and asked for a create a move ?? The tag team moves look great and are a long time commingh as well. Kudos on the illegal team mate doing more than running around outside the ring. distracting the ref, bout time! We need these in PWX, But how about mid match interfaring ... I hate playing games where you want to interfare and your wrtestler is there at the beginning bell, WTF ? I could see attacking during the entrance ( RAW 2 , or story mode SVR even thou computer controlled ) funny how SVR 2009 new stuff sounds alot like our discussions in our forum huh ?? anyone else notice any of this ??
I've actually softened on the create-a-move idea a bit lately. Not because I have to be cool and talk crap about anything that Yukes is doing, just that I'd rather focus on making the core game FUN to play rather than adding layer upon layer of complexity just for complexity's sake. It will be cool if you could actually use the tool to create truly original and inspired moves but I have to wonder if they will just be taking out a bunch of standard moves and force you to create most moves instead.
They've actually done a decent job on that imo. I thought it would've been some cheesy crap like "CREATE A QUINTUPLE POWERBOMB FTW!" But seems like that's not the case. Im not gonna be all over this feature from the onset, but it definitely seems interesting enough to warrant a purchase imo just to finally be able to witness alot of wrestling moves that a person would envision their CAW does, but never makes it into any wrestling game.
I have to agree with Action, they are adding a lot of nice features to the game series but they are still just slapped on to an obsolete and somewhat broken game engine, that's what i like about Midway, they have cut out on a lot of features (women, full entrances, some match types etc) for their first release just to get more development time for the core gameplay, when you have solid and satisfying basics you can add all the bells and whistles you can possibly think of.
That create a finisher idea came from us the fans to begin with. I know I myself personally pitched that idea to the pwx team a few times over the last few years on the gamefaqs board. I've been making move hacks in No mercy since forever and just thought about how great it would be to implement into a game. Knowing yukes and their half ass approach to good concepts the create a finish implementation will suck. I'm pretty sure it will only apply to grapples (no flying or running attacks or submission) and will be very choppy in execution. The way it should've been done is to allow the players to use any in game animation for any style move they desire. Also the ability to flip animations and switch the x,y axis' when needed. It really doesn't matter what Yukes does to SvR that game has only gotten worst since HCTP. the analog stick control idea is horrible, the left shoulder button plus left stick to run is horrible, the movesets are horrrible and do I need to mention the commentary? Truth be told PWX is our only hope, but its taken longer to get here than the second coming of the messiah, lol. Still we love the effort and we really can't wait to play it, until then I'll keep my fingers crossed for that rumored FPR port for the xbox live arcade.
Is it just animations, or is it something further?
Like if you can give a guy a standard move as a finisher and up the damage in doing so (Million Dollar Dream is pathetic in Smackdown) then that's cool.
If it's just cutting together animations, I don't really get it. And how the hell would you balance that? It'd be a complete headache.
I can't wait to use this feature. I'll probably hate the game (they have been polishing the same turd for years) but I almost never pay for Smackdown games. People lend them to me and then never ask for them back (lol). I still enjoy creating people on Smackdown games and then use them about once, realise the game is a peice of crap and go back to creating again. Then I go play KoC2 and have loads of fun but get pissed off that my CAWs often look nothing like who they are meant to be.
THQ can put all the features they want but that doesn't change the fact that WWE's game play is so dull actually a N64 game made in 2000 is far better and players choose it against WWE 2009/8/7. That is a hard fact that THQ need to learn fast! Let them put stupid tricks like Create A Finisher or "This year we focus on tag-team matches" - plenty fine! I will maybe buy the game when it's worth playing. I am sick and tired of THQ beating their chests about how great their games are but the players all around say that the game is just stupid - it's unplayable. How can you add extras to a broken car? It's pointless...
