1) TV Licensing *************************
Sometimes you just never know where opportunities will come from.
A film and television production company approached us about licensing a version of our game to coincide with a new television series in development. This series will feature female MMA fighters and the producer would like to attach a small MMA game to help sell the series to international broadcasters. The idea being that we would "re-purpose" our game engine a package it as a simple MMA game with just two characters that they could use as a marketing tool to promote the tv show. It would be licensed separately to each broadcaster in each territory around the world. If the show gets picked up by multiple broadcasters we could get paid multiple times for just the single project. Definitely worth considering. We've already got a similar deal on the table with a wrestling show being produced by another network so licensing small games like this to broadcasters might turn into a nice little side business for us. Imagine that! Earning steady revenue!
We were asked about doing 2D games to be played in a web browser, too. The crew is confident we can do this if given the opportunity but we need to be careful that we don't get distracted away from our core goal which is obviously 3D gaming. Still, if we get the opportunity to grow our knowledge and experience base it can only help us build value in the studio which is always a good thing. We'll see how it pans out. For now our focus is in Uprising and moving the PWX franchise forward. Everything else is icing on the cake.
It will definitely be an interesting month or so for us as we nail down the direction we'll be taking for the next year or so. It's nice to have to so many options but at some point soon we need to define a clear direction and get moving.
Reminds me of a quote from the documentary on the Halo 2 bonus disc, "The time for feedback is over, now we need to get to work."
2) Link of the Week ********************
Special thanks to the PWX supporter who just started a Yahoo group for Uprising. Very nice of you!
Thank you to everyone who weighed in on last week's question regarding online simming of matches. A suggestion was made to reward players for achieving certain gameplay goals through fair play. What sort of achievements do you think would be appropriate to add if we get the chance to do so?
