I went on a IGN board to talk about PWX and guess what happened:
“What?”
“I'm very sorry, but don't you think that this is OFF TOPIC,this is a WWE boards not the PWX boards, and also it does look pretty stupid.”
“Judging by that vid, it looks like it kinda sucks…”
“ Sega Dreamcast exclusive.”
“It also looks like the whole game was made with that one dummy programme, but also those videos could be the demo so who knows, the game could be really great,i will defiantly be downloading the demo”
“ Its the same as WrestleMania 21 for the Xbox
same graphics etc...
just without the wwe logo.
WrestleMania 21 had lots of glitches, probably the WORST game ever, Studio Gigante went bankrupt after this games release.”
We need to spread word quick because everybody thought the game sucked because it’s not by WWE. We need to challenge WWE head on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You said people think PWX sucks well we can't actually say maybe it's the worst game ever no one's actually played it yet.Kinda disapointing don't u think? My point is we can't say the game will be the greatest ever cuz we haven't played it yet.
[cite] Monitor:[/cite]Actually, it sounds more like they saw the videos posted by people claiming to be PWX.
Fortunately they have all been taken down now.
Unfortunately for several months any searches for PWX took them to the wrong videos.
That's kind of a dangerous assumption...
I'm sure you've read some of the threads yourself, but PWX IS getting heat from some of the few people who know about it. That's the nature of the beast, especially considering how damn picky us wrasstlin' gamers can be...but I have to admit, it really does have me worried.
I do know that I was asked specifically by several people about the project when they had gotten mis-information from the videos that had been posted in the past by people OTHER than Dave.
Mainly because I heard about the WM21 Xbox game comparison....because those false videos USED WM21 for a lot of their sequences. That was always the only problem I ever had with those videos...people were getting confused by them, and I was having to answer a lot more questions than I wanted to about it.
We're going to get heat for a lot of reasons not the least of which being I talked a pretty big game like a punk a few years ago when we started. Oops. Making games is hard. But thankfully I didn't start this project as a means for personal glorification so I'm more than ready to take the bad with the good in terms of feedback. We have taken steps in recent months to stem the flow of false information leaked to the web but at the end of the day we can't spend a lot of time worrying about that either. Lesson learned, this is why you almost never hear about an upcoming Spike game until just a few months before release. I wouldn't say I'd do anything any differently, being open about my mistakes has had its benefits as well, and I do expect to be called out on every target we've missed or wrong turn we've taken.
The videos dont really look exciting. so you cant really blame people for thinking that. but the idea of wrestling game by wrestling fans for wrestling fans has me ready to try it.
Dave, you might want to look into the Penny Arcade Expo in August. There was a post on the site today about submitting games for the PA guys and about 50 industry guys to look over, and the top 10 will be presented at PAX.
They're also looking for speakers, and considering your experience going from just another guy to damn near on the cusp of having your first game head out the door, it might be a way to talk about your experiences on a comparitively big stage and get word of the game out there.
Plus I would think that folks would want to hear about how you've made a game happen from pure nothingness, pretty much.
