PWX sucks at advertising, there is only one Pro Wrestling X video up on youtube and it has 23,000 views, which is about how much my top video had on my old account. Are you ****ing kidding me?

You guys should get busy promoting, youtube advertising is free, make more videos, spread the word, how do you expect to sell a game that has only 23,000 views on youtube? I mean let's be honest. This is one of the most important criticisms on this forum right now.

What ever happened to that trailer contest anyway?

EDIT: I edited my post myself.

IMO the fans should get to work with advertising. You know - word to mouth...
Tell your friends, add to newsletters, link, all of that!
This is a game for the fans - the fans should give something back to the game. The least we could do IMO...

Word of mouth is the best way currently to get the game out there, and give back to the game, as you suggest spudz. You want to point people to accurate information, or give them accurate information. So pointing them to the website, telling them to join the newsletter, answering what questions they have if you know the information are all good things that anyone can do.
  1.
or you could update gamespot and every other major gaming site with the latest pwx multimedia.

also 23,000 views? that's kinda weak, my first nm clip has about 60,000 views.

no mercy already has a following so people will randomly search for videos on youtube. Not a fair comparison :)

Good point. So if No Mercy sold 2 million units and does 60k views then by that logic we should at least make our money back ;)

Well this might be off topic, but I really think now is a good time to start thinking about possible future business plans. I know a lot is in the air and the crew has little time for this. If someone is going to decide to do business with you Dave, they are going to be making a strong financial commitment. You could show them that you are worth that commitment by showing them that you have more to offer them than there share of the profits of a small game.

If you could show businesses that there investment now could lead to them having a relationship with a well planned developer, you might attract more attention. If you could show businesses that they where investing in not just PWX, but in a franchise, in side projects, in a future product line, I think that you could justify someone taking a risk on you.

If nothing else, once it does come time to make hard decisions, we could be ready with contingencies for a variety of contingencies. This could at least avoid having short windows for dialogs, but it could allow for the community to help the crew in making future decisions.

What do you all think? Should we talk about this? Could this be question of the week fodder? Could this be something people could help with? I'm sure you have plans, but maybe gaining public support for them will help?

"Good point. So if No Mercy sold 2 million units and does 60k views then by that logic we should at least make our money back ;)"

    3 problems with that logic.
-No Mercy was made before the youtube so it would have recieved more views if youtube had been around
-The company making the game already had a few games that had a big following and were highly regarded as great games. They weren't making there first game.
-No Mercy was a game made with a major company...WWE/WWF.

Matt... I think the semicolon and end parenthesis should clue you in to the fact that he's kidding.

As far as advertising, I don't think there should be a rush of it happening until the crew is sure they have a product the people will want to buy and play. Sure, it should be a thought... but it shouldn't be set in action quite yet.

It will be a lot easier to advertise once there is a product to advertise.

Right now, all we have is some screen shots, a single trailer, and information on a game that isn't ready to be played just yet.

Once Uprising is ready to go and about to be out the door, then an advertising campaign should be put in place. And we can help as users, by telling our friends, moms, grandmothers, cousins, the fella down the street with the stringy hair who smells funny, and anyone else who will listen.
  3.
and how is it any different than the tna promos? i mean, the tna game was promoted way before the even had a playable. and they boomed the scene with a single trailer. publishing it on every major gaming site. so it's an old trick, advertise before you even have the actual game.

I'm pretty sure that the trailer was sent to the major gaming sites back when it was made.

Just as I am sure that any new trailers will be sent the same way.

This is stupid!Promote the game? Look at it!It's got nothing done!I mean for the people that don't follow the game's progress it'll be well: "WTF is that a wrestling game? What are those screenshots WWE's better screw this" So in this stage promoting the game would suck.Only after a demo is released so the people can get a feeling of some gameplay should there be some promotion going on.

I agree, for the most part, as I said earlier.

Currently the game is in development. It doesn't have a license to draw in fans of TNA or WWE, so trying to advertise like they do is not really gonna bring in people and keep them, without something to really show them. All we can do to promote is tease right now. As with anything, a tease needs to be done carefully or it will turn people off more than it will interest them. You also can't keep a tease going for too long, or people will just lose interest and need to be reminded again when something is available for them to actually try themselves.

I have several friends in the wrestling game community who are aware of PWX. Many of them have been aware of it for years. They are waiting for me to tell them something is actually out, or at least has a date certain, before they get involved or even want to take any interest. I can't blame them for that, as it is the way I am with most video games.

Once Uprising is finished, or new trailers are done for it's impending release at least, then some promotion can be done.
  4.
look the game was never about drawing the wwe crowd. it was about the wrestling gamers community. if you are a wrestling fan, and you look for games in gamespot for example, and you don't have any of the major gaming consoles, aka PS Xbox Nintendo, so you look in the pc related ones.

let me tell you what you're going to find there, cuz that's one way i found out about pwx, i found it via Google but then looked it up on gamespot. so what you find in that search is wwe raw for pc, and tons of sims.

so showing a guy a trailer of pwx, and saying it's for pc, i think should be about enough to get his hopes up. and yes there are still people who only have a pc as a main gaming station.

    Good point there UT.

I know the game used to be on Gamespot, but I haven't tried to visit it there in a long time, so maybe it needs to be resubmitted.

I'm sure there are some plans for advertising and promoting the game when the time comes.

I actually have to agree with dratsab. Advertising is necessary. Sure, you can add 500 cool new moves, and a nice flipping spinning corkscrew moonsault 720 plancha animation, but in the end, if nobody knows about it, it still won't sell.

I don't see why advertizing can't begin, and I think it should, because a) it will raise awareness for when the game comes out and can be bought, and b) it will probably result in more people coming to the forums and having their say in development.

I don't see a reason why advertising couldn't start, but it's a matter of who is going to do it.

Some good points have been brought up in this topic.

it's still on game spot btw, just very outdated. the screenshots are from August of 05.

How does one update Gamespot? Is it done by the webmasters, the general public...?
  6.
i think it could only be updated by the guys who submitted the game, creators\owners. so only Dave or who ever created the gamespot profile could update it.
  7.
I agree with you guys, it makes no sense to promote a game that's nowhere near being done.

    Hey guys,

The videos were just going to be some candid stuff around the studio that showed a few seconds of gameplay. We're just getting killed here for a funding deadline on the 15th so we've been too swamped to even take any video. Crunch time!!!

When you are ready to promote, I think press releases are the way to go to get some initial buzz. I mean, that is the easiest way to reach the entire gaming media outside of independently contacting them.
