Considering the PC format of wrestling games is very new to me, I thought it might be interesting to consider some of the advantages of this form as compared to consoles.
-Could we place our own music in the game, in the way of entrance music or menu music?
-Could we download new moves?
-Could we download new Create-A-Wrestler options?
-Online tournaments?
-VS'ing other PWX users online?
-Imposing some sort of created claps, crowd chants, etc?
-Downloading well-known characters?
-Would the Create-A-Wrestler be less restricted because of the huge space available on a computer?
Sure, some of these things might seem a bit far into the future. But these are some things to consider, because the computer-format of the game could really set it apart from the 'RAW's, 'Smackdown vs. Raw's and 'Legends of Wrestling's on the market.
Sure, you'll be able to play using the keyboard, but the game is designed around a controller format, hence the need to buy a USB controller (Or a wireless one or whatever)

Custom Music - As far as I can remeber there was discussions about allowing custom entrance and menu music. However due to licensing costs involved with the use of MP3's the free-source OGG format is going to be used (which is just as good if not better IMO)
Downloading New Moves/CAW Parts - I also seem to remember discussions regarding extra CAW parts being made available if the game was a big enough success. Not sure if that's still the plan or not but I'm sure if the game is a success that expansion packs will follow soon thereafter. And any PC game can be modded, I'm sure there will be loads of fan made moves and CAW parts.
Online - Not sure what the plans for online are right now but I think the talk earlier was that PWX will feature online play however PWX won't maintain a server for online play.
DLing Well Known Characters - This won't be an official feature of PWX but when the game comes out I'm sure a lot of sites will start popping up featuring downloadable real-life wrestlers/characters
And yes create a wrestler should be far less restricted. I remember Dave saying once that the only limitation to the amount of content you create or put into PWX is the amount of hard drive space you have available. If you had the space you could conceivably have a roster of hundreds of CAWs
Some of these things may have changed or I may have forgotten or missed some changes but as far as I know these are still the plans. A moddable unrestricted wrestling-sim sandbox for the PC is my idea of a dream game and I hope that PWX delivers.
Thanks for answering some of my queries, I'm glad to hear those possibilities aren't off the table. I'm getting a bit amped for the game already, and it isn't even finished development... the PS2 series has left me a deprived, arguably sad character.
Well a PC is an advantage generally I mean in console games no matter hom many stuff they have u eventually get bored from the roster the CAW and the arenas and on the PC you will be able to download all new stuff to have in the game therefore in someway the game will never "get old"
A quick statement (paraphrasing an OFFICIAL confirmation by Dave on the old boards) about making a lot of CAWs: They've got the character creation optimized to the point where creating a wrestler simply references the pieces in the appropriate directories (moves from the "moves" directory, textures in the "textures" directory, etc.), which VASTLY reduces the filesize any given CAW takes to much less than 100Kb per CAW. Your roster number will be limited only by however much hard drive space you have, and your propensity for creation or downloading. Have a nice day. :)
[cite] spudz:[/cite]New consoles have downloadable content,so they won't "get old" either...
I don't know man they have the option to download but the content is not done easily let's say by a gamer it has to be done by the guys who made the game So in a way the content is much less then you or I think
That's true. I hate when developers just diss the computer like that. The computer is the reason the PS2 exists and the XBox exists.A slap in the face is the GTA series first released for the consoles, and a year later - for the PC.That's such a bad move...

You know what! Dave should ask Adam Roylan (TEW and EWR simming games) Matt Dickie (Wrestling Encore), Action(Homebrew Wrestling) to help you out and make a completely good game sometime in the near future when PWX is out. So it can be all the indy wrestling game makers teaming up to make Pro Studiobrew Encore Wrestling. What a good game that will be?

It's harder to develop for PCs because there's so many different configurations of hardware and software, but the truth is the PC market drives game development, and vice versa. If you take a look at console technology, just about everything was tried and perfected on PCs before it moved over to the console.
This is why PC gaming is almost always a higher quality experience than console gaming, as far as the technology is concerned. What you get from console gaming however, is a refinement of that process. You have games that run really well on lower-cost hardware, and don't crash, etc. You lose a few things too, for example, you lose the native support of a keyboard and mouse (the best possible controls for first person shooters), you lose easy moddability, you lose bleeding edge technology, etc.
I might be way out of line here but I don't think there's enough money in the world to temp Mat Dickie into working with anyone else. He seems to be perfectly content doing what he's doing and all the power to him.
"Action" has already been a huge support to PWX and has been more than willing to share his development insight with us. Fantastic guy. Ryland I've never talked to but I'd love to when PWX get's to the stage where we can consider making use of his expertise.
It's nothing like Mugen. I haven't played it (my comp's not powerful enough to run it), but from personal correspondence with Action (and from looking at his website), the only thing that the user can customize about it is the wrestlers' themes. The rest of the content is made for the game by Action himself, and everything else Action does in terms of game updates is entirely dependent on any bug-finding done by the user.
What I like about the Homebrew Wrestling game has a lot to do with Action's decision to make it a free game. Because of this he can load it with as many old school real wrestlers as he wants without any legal trouble from WWE, WCW, etc. I mean c'mon, a free wrestling game with Demolition on the roster? Yeah!!! I wish more people would take up the game making hobby so there were more projects like Homebrew out there. Mat Dickie has a new game coming out, too. If I had the opportunity I would jump at the chance to do a 2D old school game.

I'll have to agree with the second part. I think it's great that the PWX team decided to go for it. It's inspirational in a way, and if more people took chances for what they believed in, more lives would be less boring.
I'll have to check out the Homebrew Wrestling game... I've always searched for a wrestling game on PC (besides RAW), but all I could find were GM-mode style games.
yeah but there must be something wrong couse I have no colors after the match starts and it takes pretty long to load I downloaded v 2.1 and my computer's pretty good
