This might sound like a stupid detail but it's really starting to annoy me and I need your help. We can't get a convincing sound effect for the player walking in the ring. All mat sounds we have are too 'impact-y' and we need something a bit more subtle.

Any of you have a good footfall sound effect we can at least use as a placeholder?

I've never been good with sound, but could you just turn the volume down on it to make it quieter?

I would use PSound to rip all the sounds from PS1/2 games and find one there, but I think there are copyright issues with doing that.

lol thanks for the tips but we definitely don't want to use audio from other games unless we had permission.

Try and capture the sound of walking in a sandbox (or just use the program to generate noise), and make it just ever-so-slightly crisper in the higher-frequencies of EQ filtering, and then play around with the volume a little. If it sucks, then play around with speed-up or pitch down, or even with delay effects like Chorus or Convolution.

Combine your final product with whatever mic-under-the-ring effects you got going on, and you'll have yourself a quality footfall.

Well the ring is canvas right?

So get a small painting canvas and some shoes. Take the shoes and tap 'em on the canvas like they are walking. You should get a good sound.

For the padding outside the ring, I guess you could use a walking on carpet sound. Or find one of those Gym pads and have shoes on it.
