You nailed it. Light/med using a tap/hold system and then the strong tier of moves uses a timing system from the medium grapple state. It's a thing of beauty...when it works.
oooh 3 levels of grapple..maybe we do have the nomercy killer on our hands! lol..i used to love doing 4-5 light grapped and moves, then nailing a hard grapple/big move opening them up for turnbuckle moves etc..was like a game of chess
once the grapples on,is it a different direction for each move then?
ive never played fire pro,is that the 2d 1?
btw dave,is the gymnasium paying homage to the early ROH shows?
Fire pro is the 2D one. You can get Roms and Emulators and play the SNES ones, I dunno about the others (I really want to play the latest but I only got a 360).
I am looking forward to trying out the grapple system and giving you an honest opinion. I haven't loved a wrestling game since No Mercy and I really hope that what you guys got can make me forget about No Mercy. Graphics you kill it clearly. Customization based on the future PWX should also trump it. Just hope my usual strong strike big grapple submission style works lol
KOC plays well for a Strong Style heavyweight singles match up. It relies on a more methodical approach to the match and has major difficulties in trying to do catch-as-catch-can high speed matches.
It still has the high flying moves, and other staples of cruiser/junior weight wrestling...but it doesn't flow as well in that fast paced style while playing.
It just about perfectly simulates the AJPW/NJPW style of wrestling from the 90's. Hard hitting, head dropping madness.
It is made by the same company that does the Fire Pro series, and it builds off of the same style of game play, mainly timing based, and has even more incredibly detailed A.I. for each wrestler. As of this point in time, that company, Spike, is in my mind the greatest wrestling game making company around. And I am really hoping, for their sake, as well as Dave's sake, that the new US release of Firepro does well.
I'm hoping they get outdone by WishboneX, but only time will tell on that front. And thankfully we should be getting a glimpse of that front soon.
Grapples are anything but 50/50 in Firepro. If you know the timing for the button press you will win the grapple, as long as you are not trying to perform too strong a move.

I almost considered pre-ordering a few days back, but I'm now pleased that I didn't.
Aki's grappling system was my favorite grappling system of all time & which PWX will be employing, combine that along with Smackdown's finisher system, Fire Pro's logic & a No Mercy/Smackdown caw & you got PWX...what could quite possibly be the greatest wrestling game ever created!!
i prefered the analog spin for the finisher, momentum worked so well too as you had to put together a good string of offense to be able to pull of the finisher....in the DOR its flawed as u can hit like 5 finishers in a match and still not win

3 levels of grapples...light, medium & strong (if i remember right strong grapples are finishers)...so in that respect it's just like No Mercy. But i remember Dave mentioning a side grapple position for luchadorian type moves...Dave correct me if i am wrong?
