Do you listen to music? What's your favorite genre?Favorite preformers? What music do you think is perfect for wrestling? I love hip-hop,my fav rapper is EMINEM and I think it's perfect for titantrons, but I still think rock and heavy-metal tracks are more wrestling... You?
Personally I feel that the wide expanses of the Metal genre are what fits most pro wrestlers the best. There aren't really any big names that I feel can properly utilize a rap-type theme. Within Metal you range from the soft, sweet, symphonic, to the Cthulhu-inspired demonic.
Music can make or break games, and absolutely destroy wrestling games. Look at what Smackdown! has become, every other song I'm pressing mute. "Rock" fits wrestling best (IMO), that's why I've stayed so far away from the Def Jam games. Look at DOR 2, the music was damn near ambient instead of prominent. I guess that it doesn't matter if it is rap or what-not, it's about tempo. If the tempo can't carry the mood that the game is attempting to convey, then instead of amplifying the experience it becomes a detriment and ruins the atmosphere.
And another unsettling thing is the absents of music. Perfect example is SDvR 2K7, I don't get music, instrumentals, nothing; Just the repetitious and broken rhetoric of boring and annoying announcers (And I actually like JR). I personally believe that BYW, as broken as it was, was saved in part by soundtrack: Twiztid, Spineshank, CKY, Red Tape, Machine Head, etc. And most importantly Custom Soundtracks (XBox OC). That is why I'm looking forward to PWX, it's on PC, anything on PC has the potential for Custom Soundtracks (yay!).
And as for my personal choice of music, it is typically industrial (Metal + Techno = Happy). And thusly the standards of Nine Inch Nails, CellDweller, Mindless Self Indulgence, KMFDM, and Tool stand as favorites. But I am an oddity with my love of Flogging Molly, Slipknot, Garbage, Ozzy, Offspring, Red Tape, Jimmy Eat World, Static-X, Rise Against, David Bowie, Power Man 5000, Twiztid, Techno/Trance/Electronica in general, etc.
I like the extremes. I like 80's metal, 70's hard rock, grunge, black and death metal. For a wrestling game i think it needs lots of songs that sounds very different, and range from tolerable rock, and techno. Basically, not what I listen to. Not for background noise.
I like when music is custom made for wrestlers like Bret Hart, Goldust, Undertaker, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Ultimate Warrior, Kane, Dude Love, nWo.. I like it less when it's well known bands but I do like Motorhead's work with Triple H's themes.
I dunno you isolate a big fanbase when you have a rap song as a wrestling entrance. Personally... it may be stereotypical but I only accept rap as an entrance for a black guy who is thugged up
yeh see I think music is an underappreciated part of a wrestler. The right music can help very much. Look at jericho in WWE. Sandman in ECW. And typical fans are sexist and rockers and think rap works for guys like New Jack but not say a guy like Orton lol
okay, for the most part, I'd have to agree. Rock and Metal is really the best theme music for wrestling, but only in most cases. Because I can think of a few gimmicks that would fit a different style of music better.
a Rapper or a gangbanger should definitely get a rap song.
A Cowboy, redneck, or in some cases a biker would easily get a country song.
A futuristic gimmick should get either a Techno, Industrial, or possibly Prog theme (although the metal bands Pagan's Mind and Galneryus would also work).
An ethnic gimmick should get music that represents their ethnic background (although if you look hard enough, you can find a metal band that would represent just about any ethnic background).
A tribal gimmick should get a tribal beat (although Roots by Sepultura also works and so does anything by Dead Soul Tribe)
My name is marty and i go by "The Wrestling Machine Martacus"... Belive it or not my moniker was stolen by the wwe for kurt angle! Yes that is the truth, it all started when I was featured on "Micasa" he has a huge web forum on les thachers web cast and i wrote in alot and he used alot of my blogs and he really loves the moniker and wrote about it and before you knew it they started to use "The Wrestling Machine"... What a bunch of ass-wipes! I am also in my band Indecent Exposure who by the way just got a deal from a small indy label Rockstar Records out of Denver, Co and i want to record some new stuff for wrestling x or use existing material!
