Now I don't know about everyone else but some stuff about the release are not clear to me so I want to ask : 1. What will the "prequel" of PWX include (CAW? Matches? refs? wrestlers?) 2. Where will it be distributed from (thru download?-IGN?,GameSpot?, PWX site) 3. When we get the release do we have to pay later for the full PWX 4. How many copies do u guys have to sell of it do actually get "back on the track"? Hope I ain't pissin anyone off by asking this s...stuff
I'm not in any position to give you an official answer, but to be polite I will tell you what my personal understanding is. If you want to get what Dave talked about you will pay between 0 and twenty US dollars to download form them a game that includes a very small roster to play in one on one matches in one level. No CAW. no refs, no frills. Some time later a full pimped out PWX will be released which you will pay full price for. Hey guys delete my post if Dave or someone official answers I dont want any confusion.
Of course, that won't stop people from modding the game to fit their CAW ideas...which would, should and COULD lead to interesting developments on the progress front...
modding isn't hard, i know that from my expreince from no mercy modding, as for move hacking and stuff i guess we'll only know when it comes out don't we?
TO be honest, I hated the modded versions of No Mercy. Way too glitchy, and the move reanimations looked like ass. I'll stick with the No Mercy stock game, well except I use CAWs still of course.
I just made a new post about this on another thread that I hope will clear these questions up. But just to recap:
1. What will the "prequel" of PWX include (CAW? Matches? refs? wrestlers?) Exhibition matches, Hammerlock venue, and a few wrestlers of different styles.
2. Where will it be distributed from (thru download?-IGN?,GameSpot?, PWX site) PWX site and other online distributors to be announced.
3. When we get the release do we have to pay later for the full PWX Yup. This first release is just a mini-game preview. It will have a free trial version as well so people aren't being forced to pay anything just to try it.
4. How many copies do u guys have to sell of it do actually get "back on the track"? Roughly 1000 per month for the first three months and then we're alllllll gooooooooood
Hope I ain't pissin anyone off by asking this s...stuff
Nope, and I hope I'm not pissing anyone off with my answers!

This is what I think the PWX Demo/Trial Version should include:
"Pro Wrestling X: The Hammerlock is a great name. It sounds kind of metaphysical (???). Like this:
-- The Hammerlock arena/training center is the training ground/dojo type arena of PWX where you come to learn the basics of PWX.
-- The Hammerlock is a basic entry level wrestling maneuver.
-- The game is just a taste of things to come.
From that stems Pro Wrestling X: The Hammerlock!
But I'd suggest that you have at least EIGHT FULL WORKING characters included, only the Hammerlock FULLY interactive and functional (balcony climbing/dives, basic weapons -- ex.chair, kendo stick, barbed wire bat just to get people talking -- MAYBE a table -- Nothing will make a believer more than doing a balcony dive through a table in a demo) and a referee. Also fully customizable match rules for up to eight players. We want people to come away talking. If people can't put down a demo from an indy developer that plays better than a FULL Smackdown game, then you know you've got something. Hell you wouldn't even need to sort out the chain wrestling bit yet, though it would add more."
The only problem is we dont want the casual gamer thinking "This'll do, won't bother getting the real thing" and we also don't want them thinking "Was that it? I paid for that!". It's a tricky one. I think 8-10 wrestlers will do. I think maybe have a challenge mode (ie a one player mode where you face each of the wrestlers one by one like all the old wrestling games) then it will be like a new version of Tecmo!
Trust me if you can allow (through match options simply) a 4 vs 4 Elimination match AND have a referee in the ring at the same time fully working on a "demo" then you sold your game. Trust me. The key to a preliminary in my opinion is not to limit the quality of the experience but to tease quantity. In other words, have all the game mechanics fully working but limit selection. I'd say up to eight players and a referee with standard match options and basic weapons is more than enough. In the case of PWX, less is more doesn't too much apply here. When THQ puts out a demo at least a few million will download it/play it in some way, simply because it says WWE. All they've come to expect is Cena vs. Triple H with all working moves in a one on one match. But we don't have Cena nor do we have Triple H.
Therefore, I believe PWX will have to get by on not only the quality of, but in this case, the quantity of its options.
But that's what I'm saying. If we indicate that this just a test run, and they like what they see and (hopefully) ultimately decide they like it better than Smackdown, then once they know there's more coming they'll stay on for the ride.
That's also another thing. Having a mode such as that in the demo may also cause them to think, "Oh, so when I get it, I'm just gonna go through more guys?" I think by just having the matches as they are, we're saying "This is what you're getting and there's more where that came from."

I agree with that. The thing I'm concerned about is there not being that much more than that in the proper game - yeah, there'll be a CAW and a cage but being able to have eight mates play at once sounds like more than enough fun to me. I think 1-on-1 is where it is at. No, there isn't Trip v Cena but if the wrestlers have cool enough, very well animated moves, then people will enjoy it. There must be 3000 wrestling fans on the net willing to play this game, hopefully going "I'll try this free demo - its great, i'll by Hammerlock - this is also very good but i wish i could have a 4 v 4 cage match with WWE wrestlers - oh PWX by the same people is coming out with a full roster and caws, and cage matches blah, i'll get that too!"
I'll buy the pre release if it's cheap enough (£10 is probably my limit if i'm honest, otherwise i'll just wait for the full game). Although you are all lovely people I'm still going to treat you like a proper business who has to offer me something i want. I'd love to give you special dispensation and send you £100 but I'm currently penniless (well, i'm actually over £2000 in debt without my Student Loan coming in to account - damn the student overdraft!).
Radiohead are being pretentious, try and run a business. Let people play a really limited one-on-one demo (2 characters, only 5 goes, after which you are charged for the whole thing if you want to continue playing (8-12 characters, unlimited play).
exactly - they could release a fart in a bottle and their fanboys would buy it and claim it to be musical genius and if you think its just a load of sh*t then you just don't get it.

Given the right outlets and getting the word out, I think that wouldn't be impossible IF the free demo is good enough.
Curious: the way you put that... 1000 per month and you're "alllllll gooooooooood"... does that mean you could get a bit less than that and still be in reasonable shape, or is that the minimum you need to keep things going?
The reason I ask... I dunno, I know nothing about this type of marketing, and I certainly don't know what kind of hit numbers your site gets, but it seems like a tall order for such a limited release. You're marketing to the hardcore wrestling fan, not the legions of WWE fans who could care less about anything without Triple H on the cover.
We could get a bit less and still keep things going but 1000 per month would keep thing going a bit more smoothly. And yes, we're really going to have to get the word out and market the hell out of this thing!
I posted the link to the pre-order on the Game FAQS board.
And of course, the first reply was asking about pre-exisiting pre-orders. I told the person asking to read the FAQ provided in the link, but I think that is going to be a recurring problem, unfortunately.
Thanks Monitor. Yes, I did add that info to the FAQ on the sales page but a few people have still asked about it. Seems to have settled down now so I hope I've done an OK job of explaining it.
