WWF No Mercy - N64. Still got the orginal cart version. I never had the honor to play DOR/DOR2 which apparentley is very similar to no mercy with better graphics and more match gimmicks. Would love to play it.

But yeah No Mercy is a blast. Especially if you have a few friends round and you play a four way ladder match. Once i had one last 2 hours! Its so satisfying when you springboard dropkicked 2 people off the ladder onto a pile of chairs :D Also i like the idea of having more than 2 finishers. In pretty much every hold you could assign a finisher to.

    Awesome game.

    Love you all x

I consider myself a bit of a black sheep regarding the opinion I hold of existing games, in that I generally don't like them:
I dislike Fire pro (unrealistic grappling mechanics, no rest holds or chain wrestling to my knowledge), VPW2 (same again) and the Mdickie games (same again, plus generally unrefined gameplay mechanics). They may be fun to play, but I consider them as "wrestling action games" as opposed to authentic "wrestling simulators".

There are a couple of obscure fire pro clones out there which are worth mentioning, such as Jikkyo power puroresu 96 (snes), The Main Event (Arcade) and Royal pro wrestling (3DO). They're nowhere near as realistic as I'd like them to be, but they're OK for quick matches on their respective emulators every now and then.

Yeah I have to agree with fingers No Mercy is one of the greatest games so far although the graphics suck but there ain't any better game as far as gameplay is concerned.
But by far the worst wrestling games i have played are the one made for the PC like:
    WWF RAW
    Wrestling Encore and others
Man I hope PWX has nothing to do with those games.

M Dickie games I respect because one man made them, but the wrestling engine is god awful. No Mercy is my favorite, but I haven't had access to VPW, KOC, or other foreign games.

Oh yeah,I frogot about No Mercy - a perfect wrestling game IMO.Also Wrestlemania 2000 N64 is pretty nice...
Also - it was cool in MDickie's games to draw your own textures - everything could have been changed - from the cages to the aprons, from the items to the crowd - everything! That's what I loved - you could draw your own ECW or WWe and have a blast...

They took out the test of strength in No Mercy for some reason. I kind of liked it, but they should make it for strong grapple only so it doesn't happen as often.

I'd have to say my all time favorite game was No Mercy. I had many good memories playing that game with friends for hours on end.

I also really liked HCTP, not due to it being amazing at any one thing, but again, because of the memories I had playing the game.

My favorite game is King of Colosseum 2. I think that they pretty much perfected the way a Singles Match should play out. Fire Pro Returns would be a close second.
  1.
My favorite wrestling game is NO MERCY followed by Wrestlemania 2000. I've never had so much fun with a wrestling game like I had with No Mercy. I remember playing this game with my cousin who also loves this game to death 12 hours non-stop. I love the Aki grappling system (which PWX will be employing) & the CAW because it's so easy to use...you can put someone together in a matter of minutes whereas in Day of Reckoning it took me a week. The gameplay was so easy...pick up & play. Learned it in a matter of minutes & I couldn't put it down. I was hooked for life.

If I could only take one wrestling game to my grave it would be No Mercy but I'd be instantly regretting not taking VPW2 or Fire Pro Returns with me.

Or Giant Gram 2000 or WM2000....too close to call.

One of my favorite moments in wrestling gaming was finally winning the belt at Wrestlemania against Undertaker in the WM2000 career mode. I don't think any wrestling game story mode have given me that sense of accomplishment since.

Hmmm... favorite games had to be in no particular order:

    Smackdown: HCTP
    Smackdown vs Raw 2006
    Day of Reckoning 2
    WWF No Mercy
    Wrestle Kingdom 2(Basically Puroresu DoR2)

    Favorite: VPW2
    Honorable Mentions:
Tied for 1. Rumble Roses (but no Create-a-Rose! AGH!); No Mercy (the reset glitch and lack of VPW2's moves and masks hurt my appreciation of this game, despite the extra parts, the Female CAW, and new WWF moves and taunts)
    3. EWR (the ultimate free booking simulator, let's face it, we ALL want PWX to be a fully-running version of this)
    4. Fire Pro Advance & Fire Pro X Premium (unparalleled customizability)
    5. HomeBrew Wrestling from our very own Action937! (but I can't run it, and he isn't putting CAW in, so it's not higher on my list)

Easily No Mercy takes that title, and the ROM for PJ64 just made my fanaticle love for it worse (Phoenix Splashes off the cage for the 3 count!) But, after that they more or less all take second place. I loved (past-tense) the SmackDown! series, and I'll buy the new one this year (like every year), but I'm also a fan of RAW 2 (custom sountracks and a great CAW system), and I even got some good fun out of BYW (cheats used).

I haven't played any import JP games, mostly because I don't want to play a game where I know nothing that's happening but am fascinated by the bright colors and blinking lights none-the-less (Baseket Ball Reference). I know that the KOC footage I've seen looks absolutely awe inspiring, but alas, I can't read japanese... *softly sobs* So until PWX, and Fire Pro Returns come out and I get to try out TNA's venture, No Mercy is, for me and most others it the pinnicle of wrestling games.

WCW / NWO Revenge <--- by far the wrestling game that amazed me the most and that I spent most hours on... this game was one of the greatest influences on my wrestling interest. My brother use to write some storylines and make show cards and we'd spend hours and hours non-stop.

I know this game improves a lot on WCW vs. NWO World Tour but this game made Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy and the WCW had a way more interesting look and roster than what WWF had.... WCW REVENGE HAD BRET HART... actually WCW / NWO Revenge had the whole Hart Foundation except for Owen.

The thing I didn't like about NM was the finisher system.....if NM had DoR's, Fire Pro's, or even SD's finisher system, I would've liked it much more. That being said, NM is still my favorite American wrestling game of all time....the second would be HCTP.

My favourite wrestling games are the whole Smackdown Vs. Raw series and Smackdown here comes the pain.
Guys, let us be serious. Pro Wrestling X will most likely be a very realistic and at the same time a very enjoyable game, I am sure. But what match do you really think it can be for the Smackdown series (from "Here comes the Pain" on)?
Dave, and the others, your work is magnificent, don't get me wrong. But it's really hard to create a wrestling game better than that of THQ.
By the way try not to exclude the CaW feature, and please try to add the multiplayer feature. Imagine that! It would be perfect then!

Well, look at it this way LesPaul. I think Fire pro games from the SNES that were made 16 years ago are better than the crap THQ & Yukes rehash out every year. Sure, graphics might not be better, but what you do in those games actually resemble a wrestling match. Watch any wrestling match you want, then think about how it went, the progression of moves, the way one wrestler could dominate for a while then the other came back, and the false finish that you didn't see coming. Now go play a Smackdown game and tell me if any of that was in the game. I know Smackdown is an Arcade style game and thats what they aim for, but thats not what kind of game I like.

    I'd have to say:

The Day of Reckoning series kick so much ass....I'm betting if SD!vs RAW had the same gameplay system but added it's recent upgrades( TC moves, table/ladder/chair specials, match types, and move set-up) IT"D BE THE wrestling game to play.

I'm a bit partial to the Rumble Roses series.....I duno why...the moves, the girls, the specials, the girls, the arenas, the girls, the graphics, the girls' wardrobe....did I mention it had pretty ladies?

Above them all though, I hold No Mercy and the Firepro series close to my heart. I remember first booting up NM on my first n64 emulator and playing as AKI Man....ahhh, doing the burning hammer on the outside had never felt so freakin' cool. Then I discovered the firepro games....I'm thankful, because at the time, I needed a handheld game that could be replayed infinitely - firepro 2 delivered. For the first time, there wre so many moes I hadn't seen before...and A LOT of CAW possibilities.

Uhm... there's a bunch of wrestling games I like... can't really figure out any favourite...

No Mercy: It's the god damn greatest american wrestling game ever. Period. There are dozens and dozens and dozens of possibilites, the career mode kicked ass, the great amount of great moves, it's a kick-ass game at any time.

Fire Pro Wrestling D: The gameplay is great, the graphics are great, the moves are great, the amount of wrestlers/moves/rings/etc. is great, the Edit-mode is great, what do you think how I'll rate this game?! After months of playing, it's still as awesome as from day 1 on.

Wrestling Encore: Sure, it's far away from polished, but never has there been anything as innovative as this. The career mode is strong as heck and it's really funny to play (most because of the giant amount of match types and destructible weapons, but normal, weapon free matches are also pretty funny), and it's customizable as heck.

Virtual Pro Wrestling: If there would be more hacks for it, I would say that it's better than No Mercy. But in that case that there are not really much modifications, it can't push NM and FPD from the throne. Still a great game, tough.
