Okay, my wife got me an IOU £50 ($100) worth of video games for christmas and I'm thinking about checking that in soon. Could some one tell me about ASPW, please? The gameplay, the graphics, etc. I own Fire Pro R and KoC2. I love KoC (DX should make that into a t shirt) but it's beginning to seem too slow and stiff for me and Fire Pro is fun though it's a little simple in terms of gameplay (i find it far more fun in multiplayer). Please give me some advice.

Also, any other games you'd recommend. I'm looking to buy a quirky, fun, Japanese game that doesn't require my knowledge of the language.

It's All Star Pro Wrestling 3.

Thanks - she is a great wife. I'm a fairly shoddy husband - but I try.

Never played ASPW3, but by the way it looks and sounds on the youtube vids I think it is the most realistic wrestling game ever made; the "head holding" grapple system and "rope bouncing" irish whips, along with grappling from a kneeling position and decent-looking headlocks all make fire pro look (quite rightfully in my opinion) outdated and unrealistic.
All the animations look as perfect as I could hope for, the crowd sound very engaged, the wrestlers grunt nicely, the ropes and mat mechanics look spot on and the stamina system is (I think) better than that of SD. The crowd are all cardboard cutouts however, not everybody seems to like the "rush mode" and I don't think there is a chain system quite as good as GG2K ,but that game was spoilt by its arcade feel.
Nonetheless I wouldn't hesitate to get the game.

Yeah, the game looks nice. I'm not overly bothered by CAWs as I've got KoC and Fire Pro if I feel the need. All the things that Zin5ki mentioned are the things that look attractive to me.

ASPW3 has the best animation and best transition animation I have ever seen in a wrestling game.

The gameplay engine isnt one of my favorites though.

is it comparable to anything i may have already played? What are the major flaws in the title?

I agree with action937 it rocks but the engine sucks! This game would've been the best if it had the aki engine or even fire pro!

The fact that it DOESN'T use the AKI or spike engines is what makes it appeal to me.

I've had the game and the only thing that keeps it from being better than KoC 2 is the limited move list. Don't get me wrong the game is awesome, but there are only so many times you can get bodyslammed by the A.I. before you loose your mind. I swear the A.I. did like a dozen one time in a battle royal.

The game though has an awesome feel to it though with the battling system and the animations, and somewhat good sounds and great music. It almost like being there...almost.

P.S. what I really wished this game had is ringside announcing. That would have been a huge plus for me.

Think about this: if SquareSoft did the All-Star series even HALF as well as they did even their WORST recent-gen Final Fantasy game, you'd still have a pretty high-quality wrestling game result.
By all means, get the game. If nothing, it's at least a signification that SquareSoft committed to SOMETHING that wasn't an RPG (too bad they didn't think as much for the Tobal fighting-game mini-series).

Presentation is where ASPW excels. In terms of animation and graphics it kicks KoC2 from one end of the country to the other. I found the controls to be rather tricky though and it dulled my excitement for the game after a few matches. Still, the Vader and Lyger in ASPW2 are the closest to their real life counterparts than in any other game I've played so far, WK2 included.

Ok. First time around in a long time, but I want to add my two cents.

Dave is right. In terms of presentation this game is amazing. The controls are a little funky, but you get used to them.

The disappointing portion of the game, IMO, is in the customization areas. Only 4 Created Wrestlers at a time. That's it.

Appearance options are limited, so you won't be making an uber perfect Scott Hall edit.

You'll also need to take each Created wrestler you have through the story mode to build them up to what you want them to be. You only get so many points to use to purchase your wrestling moves. You must get more points to expand your wrestling options. And you'll do all this in the SAME arena each time, even though there are other arenas, you will only see ONE while using a created wrestler.

Who ever said they have a small move list is mistaken. I'm pretty sure this has more moves per wrestler than any game, including KOC 2. Especially when you get on the ground...it has so many ground moves you'd think it was a porno game, because you are f'in people up when they are laying down!

The problem is there can be 3 completely different move sets. One for normal, one for Rush Mode and one for groggy mode. 99% of the time you are stuck in normal mode. You have to work a match to get yourself to rush mode, and groggy mode is a roll of the dice.

Also, all three move lists may contain the exact same moves. Especially on your created wrestler, because you don't have enough points to buy different moves for each situation.

All in all it is a good game, with some flaws that, if overlooked, can be an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon.

Okay, I have KoC and FPR and am happy about the CAW modes in them. I'm not looking for a CAW. So, as a game is it a) fun and b) a decent representation of Pro Wrestling.

Also, this 4 edit thing - is that 4 per memory card or can you save, say, 40 but only able to load in groups of four?

It is a fun game, even with it's faults. It has arguably the best presentation of a wrestling game made. It really is immersive.

You can make as many edits as you can have on a memory card...each created wrestler is it's own save file.

You can only load 4 in to the game at a time.

Well, that doesn't really sound so bad, and the fact that i have few friends who are into Japanese wrestling games means i need a reason to wanna play 1 player games - so doing it to max up a wrestler sounds okay to me.

Now, anyone wanna sell me ASPW3 as it seems to have been all but sold out on play-asia!
