Is there gonna be any type of chain-wrestling mini game? I was thinking something like if you and your opponent do the same grapple at the same time it set off a mini game were you have to start a God of War button mashing thing. (Does anyone know what im talking about?) Where you press one of the buttons and and whoever presses it first or the most, would preform there move and then it starts over again. And it ends when one of the opponents stamina or whatever bottoms out. This is just an idea I had I dont know if it would translate well to the actual game though.
Too arcade... But we still don't know how is this game played so...anything could happen. We don't know is this the button-mashing type of wrestling games,or is this like FPW...
I would be disappointed if PWX didn't allow technical wrestlers to chain one hold into another (it happens in a lot of matches so it should be in the game), but button mashing is perhaps not the best way to implement it.
I would prefer something like Tony Hawk's pro skater manual/grind transitions. You press 2 buttons and you turn one hold into another hold, if you ever played Tony Hawk from 3 on you know what I speak of.
We've successfully tested the functionality to have one two-player animation branch off into another. It's a system we're using to not only execute reversals mid-move but one day allow gamers to modify a move mid-way through. The same system should (in theory...HAH!) allow us to add chain wrestling.
If chain wrestling does make the cut, I hope that the following common "chains" can be done: -Raising a grounded sleeper or neck/chin/face hold to the feet (making it become a standing resthold), in order to further modify it or reverse it. -Doing the same with armlocks on the ground. -Getting out of a headlock by bouncing off the ropes and pushing the opponent forwards for an irish whip.
I also hope the following animations are present in the game: -Using the small package hold to reverse a variety of moves when you're on the mat. -Raising a lying opponent up into a headlock, front facelock or armwrench. -Raising a lying opponent onto his knees, whilst holding him by the head with one hand, in order to perform a grapple move, like in ASPW3 (I've noticed that the majority of slams, suplexes and other takedowns are performed by holding the opponent like this)
I think chain wrestling is a must-do feature for PWX as WWE have not really even attempted it and this game is all about pushing wrestling games forward - something SD! vs RAW isn't trying to do at all.
Well the problem with developing the chain wrestling system is that it's a lot of work ($$$) for something that would only be used by a small number of wrestlers of a certain style. In order for us to justify pursuing it we would likely only be able to have a few very generic chains that the majority of the wrestlers wouldn't look out of place performing.
Can i ask a question - how will PWX actually differ from what is already available? Is there going to be anything different or is it going to be the best bits from the games that already exist with slightly worse graphics? Like King of Colosseum with a better CAW (for looks, the rest of the CAW in KOC is perfect)? I wanted chain wrestling cos the rest of the games don't have it, others wanted a good story mode because the story modes in other wrestling games were lacking. I just wonder what is going to make PWX special.
The biggest draw (besides gameplay which is always relative and a matter of opinion) PWX will a modders dream. Instead of being just another wrestling game our hope is for PWX to be used more as a game engine which users will bend and twist into their own idea of what a great wrestling game should be.
And what about those of us that aren't modders? Wont that be the majority of the people buying it, or are we to download other peoples work? If so, that's fine, just hope there are some shit hot modders buying this game.
I hope that "non-visual" mods will be possible, so that people with the relevant know how could tweak the gameplay or AI to their own liking. Not that I know much about how unofficial patches are made.
