Well, it seems like there is no way around it. Upgrading PWX to the newest Unity 5 engine is going to happen sooner rather than later. We’re pushing the previous version of Unity pretty hard and it’s getting more and more difficult to optimize the game to run smoothly across PC/Mac without getting serious memory issues.
This is going to come as welcome news to those of you who have been asking us to upgrade to the latest and greatest Unity and it also comes as nice “I told you so” for everyone who tried to advise us that we were asking Unity 4 to do more than it was comfortably designed to do.
The good news? On top of a great big pile of improvements we’ll also be completely upgrading the animation system. The bad news? Porting over to a new animation system, no matter how much better it is, always scares the crap out of me…
Talking with our insanely talented lead artist over the weekend about our recent funding opportunities on the horizon and he pleasantly surprised me with a really selfless proposal: he may need some help. Even if funding options all pay off like we expect them to there just is not enough hours in the day for him to do all of the art tasks needed ESPECIALLY to his standard of quality.
He’s going to want to keep a pretty tight reign on his favorite part of PWX development, the animations, but he’s given me the green light to consider a small team of artists to help him create many more CAW parts, stages, levels, weapons, etc. So if you or someone you know would like to work closely with (in my opinion) arguably the hardest working and most talented wrestling game artist on the planet please start putting together an online portfolio and stay tuned for the job postings.
Just please keep in mind that a love of pro wrestling and wrestling games is not preferred to work on the PWX crew…it’s absolutely 100% required before anything else.
I’ve been trying to share some new animation videos with you on Facebook but it is simply NOT cooperating. Please keep checking back though as I promise to keep trying until I can get the damn things to work again 🙂
In the meantime and in between time, that's it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.
