Wrestling Gamers United Newsletter #666

Hail Satan!

Hail Satan! Or Abaddon, or Pinhead, or Set, or Baal, or Dawkins and Krauss, or Ramon, or whatever/whomever you believe is the ultimate Bad Guy. Because after nearly THIRTEEN years of never-failing weekly newsletters we have come to a milestone of epic evil. We have reached newsletter number SIX HUNDRED and SIXTY-SIX! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

How to celebrate? How about we finally reveal and announce that third character unlocked during our recent successful Kickstarter? Yes, it’s time, to unleash the first openly evil character in Pro Wrestling X, and the first wholly original new character since old crew member Darrell Croswell blessed us with the unstable war machine, Troop.

This time, shiny new lead 3D artist, Kola, brings us a creation that is his first 100% original contribution to the roster. Tirador and American Grasshopper got super sweet style reboots at the talented hands of Kola but this new character, Grimhold, is the first character Kola has created for you all from the ground up with virtually zero input (bullying) from other crew members. So please enjoy your first look at the new heavyweight monster about to bulldoze his way into a Pro Wrestling X ring.

Hail Grimhold!!

“What did I see can I believe that what I saw
that night was real and not just fantasy”

Evil Updates!

So, we already pushed out two updates to Steam (maybe more by the time you read this) to improve the game as promised. In a time where Steam Early Access has earned a bit of a bad reputation due to other developers violating the spirit of the Early Access program and disrespecting their fans, it seems like a pretty positive thing for Pro Wrestling X to have proven we will be delivering updates regularly.

So why in the hell would I title this section “Evil Updates”? Simple, I’m deliberately holding back on delivering the things fans want most (more moves, features, depth, content, etc.) and instead asking the crew to do these relatively boring little “micro updates”. But before we all jump on the Evil Dave bandwagon, let me explain.

First, as insignificant as these first few updates may seem to be they actually will have pretty huge consequences as we go forward. Here is what PWX lead programmer had to say about this recent update:

Pushed up build 0.474 to Steam. Major changes:

So the most important part of this update will help us a LOT but not make any difference to you just yet. Fixing the initialization of Steam API gets us one step closer to mod support that EVERYONE wants ASAP. And the analytics integration is all about the bug and glitch hunting which I think we all agree needs to remain a top priority.

Gotta constantly improve fun and playability or pumping in all of the new moves that Kola has already produced and continues to produce will just add more broken stuff. Who wants that, eh? So the new analytics integration will help us determine exactly how, why, and when things are going wrong. Major time and frustration saver.

“The night was black was no use holding back
‘Cos I just had to see was someone watching me”

Am I Evil? Are You?

Generally speaking, I have made virtually zero enemies in my life. Sure, there are the usual haters that anyone doing anything publicly will have. But they don’t really know me. They hate the idea of me (and their own regrets that I remind them of) rather than me as a person. Anyone who really gets to know me personally may feel, at most, that I can be lazy, naive, stubborn, impulsive, and in way over my head.

But to the best of my knowledge, there are no people who honestly believe that I’m the least bit evil. Oh sure, I’ve crossed paths with crazy once or twice in my life but people like that…well…they think the whole world is out to get them, that they’re the last righteous bastion of “truth” and they are constantly victims of lying, cold hearted, conspiring, evil manipulators.

These people are harmless, but the amount of ugliness and confusion that their lives marinate in every day just leaves you feeling sorry for them and the loved ones that they burden. I couldn’t return the sentiment and find them “evil” any more than I could find a scared puppy evil that can’t control himself and gets a little pee on your leg.

“This can’t go on I must inform the law
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream”

So, does anyone honestly believe that YOU are evil? Have you ever done anything so unforgivably nasty or offensive that people wrongly (or rightly!) believe that you are just a bad bad man (or lady)? Come on, spill it! Pro Wrestling X confession time!

I know there is a sweet old lady out there who might think I’m evil after I wore a “Wine Me, Dine Me, 69 Me” t-shirt to visit my grandmother at her Catholic retirement home back in my college days when I actually thought a shirt like that was clever. Forgot I was wearing it. You’re next! Top that!

The Fall of THQ

When it comes to the subject of evil game publishers, few wrestling gamers would put a company other than THQ at the top of that list at some point in time. But no evil corporation can last forever, including the mighty THQ. We all had our theories. Hear how it all went down from someone on the inside:

“Just what I saw in my old dreams were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me
‘Cos in my dream it’s always there the evil face that twists my mind
and brings me to despair”

Banned Benoit

The debate rages on. Act of cold blooded evil or tragic and preventable result of poor workplace safety and culture of chemical abuse? One thing is certain, no matter which side of the debate you fall on, the subject is still a bannable offense as far as WWE and publisher 2K are concerned:

In the meantime and in between time, that’s it, another edition of Wrestling Gamers United.

“I’m coming back I will return
And I’ll possess your body and I’ll make you burn
I have the fire I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take its course“

Thank you for your support,
